Thanks to the recent horsepower wars, there are plenty of ways to approach the 200mph barrier without needing a roof. However, another super convertible could be in the works as Bentley is mulling an open-air version of its most powerful vehicle, the Continental Supersports.
According to Car and Driver, Bentley is seriously considering a convertible version of its latest Continental Supersports model. The open-air model would mark the eighth iteration of the Continental model, but could prove to be the most intriguing.
The Continental GTC Speed was designed to handle more power than it is currently equipped with, so the convertible body would be up to the task of dealing with the Supersports’ 621 horsepower W12 engine. The Supersports’ revised bits – which consist of a revised suspension, rear-seat delete and the extensive use of carbon fiber – would also translate well to a convertible body style.
Bentley has yet to give the production nod to the Supersports convertible, but the outlook is looking more likely than not. The Supersports coupe is just starting to hit the market, so a drop-top version is at least a year out. If the Supersports convertible does make it to production, look for it to carry a price tag of near-$300,000.
