Officially tagged a concept car, the Convertible provides a "glimpse into the potential future of the marque's flagship family." To us, that's a pretty good indication that a droptop Mulsanne is inevitable. A production model could bow as early as next spring's Geneva Motor Show, traditionally an important event for Volkswagen-owned Bentley.
For now, Bentley has only released a quartet of sketches showing the car near a Park Ward S1 Drophead Coupe from the 1950s. Visually, the two cars share the automaker's signature haunches, although the Mulsanne Convertible is much more squat.
We should learn more about the Mulsanne Convertible Concept over the next few days as we cover Pebble Beach. Like the sedan that debuted in 2010, the Convertible should be powered by a 6.75 - or "six and three-quarters" - liter V8 that puts out somewhere around a "sufficient" 530 horsepower. Although this engine's basic design dates back decades, Bentley has continuously updated it to the point where it is synonymous with the brand.
