Bentley not working on SUV

07/28/2006, 4:53 PM

By admin

Bentley is not working on or planning an SUV, according to public relations manager David P. Reuter. “We absolutely continue to stand by what we said at lunch. Bentley Motors is the maker of powerful, luxurious, grand touring motor cars and an SUV simply does not fit with our model lineup,” Reuter told Winding Road magazine. “We have no intention of producing the vehicle described in these reports.” Reuter was referring to a flurry of rumors in recent weeks indicating an SUV was under development. In January, Motor Trend said Volkswagen-owned Bentley scrapped plans for an SUV. Lamborghini — also owned by VW — is said to have scrapped plans for its SUV, too. [photo source]

OMG, why would Bentley make an SUV? Seriously? I mean a wagon fits in more with the image of Bentley (English gentleman going out to the country for some hutting and takes his 2 Labradors with him to retrieve any game shot; that sort of image) than an SUV ever could. Plus, SUV’s are so ‘down-market’ in their appeal that they would bring the whole brand down.

The SUV craze is dying out. They can now focus on bigger more refined AND more fuel efficient cars.

A Bentley wagon would be cool. I’ve always thought that wagon versions of high end sedans are cool.

#2- Jon, I believe the new Bentley image is more like, rappers, Paris Hilton, actors, highly paid entrepreneurs and lawyers. Thank God they won’t make an SUV, but it WOULD sell if they went after the Cayenne Turbo segment.

It looked like a reskinned Touareg anyway. That platform has some serious vertical market legs.

I am so Glad Bentley is not going to make an SUV… BUT #6 why would they go after the Porsche Turbo. Porsche now has a controlling interest in VW as well as Audi and you guessed it, Bentley.
I agree with the wagon. I think if they were to make a Flying Spur Estate, that would be Awesome.

#9- Despite being under the same parent company, they do compete among themselves. Example- Toureg, Q7, Cayenne. All competitors, all VW. Another- The upcoming Porsche Panamera, competiting with the Bentley Flying Spur, the VW Phaeton and Audi S8.

Range Rover owns this section of the market. Bentley owners may feel a little too conspicuous in these anti-suv times

#11, the whole point of owing a winged b is to flaunt your wealth. I ‘m trying to get an MBA so I can stand a chance of doing so one day. This SUV is just a bad idea

I still wish Lambo went ahead with another LM SUV, like their old ones from years ago. SUVs are already in their blood so they deserve one if they do it right.

2006300C Everyone has an MBA these days, good luck with all that competition, you are better off learning real skills like plumbing, construction or electrics if you wanna be rich

Lamborghini should have gone ahead with the new generation LM powered by its V12 engines. Maybe Porsche twisted the arm of parent company VW because it doesn’t want the title of the world’s fastest SUV to go to company relative Lamborghini.
