Bentley recalls 520 Arnage models

08/14/2007, 8:36 AM

By Drew Johnson

Just a day after the release of global warranty cost report, luxury-car maker Bentley has announced the recall of 520 Arnage models. The recall is due to the use of incorrect bolts to attach the wheels, which could result in them coming loose, and includes all Arnages built during the last 18 months. The Arnage, which is hand-built, retails for around $220,000.

How do you get incorrect bolts on the wheels? They ran out of bolts and sent some nimrod down to Home Depot to pick up more from the fasteners aisle? They used woodscrews?

Even Chinese automakers are not as retarded as the Brits. We are talking bolts that typically are used for one purpose and no other on a vehicle. It’s not like they can substitute the bolts holding the antenna in place for the bolts mounting the tires. Or does Bentley use big fatass tire bolts to also attach plastic trim pieces, so it’s easy to make the mistake?

Bentley should own up and admit that their esteemed engineers specified the WRONG bolts in the design – not that incorrect bolts were used. What BS. They should be sued and banished from selling cars, or maybe make them in Iran. At least the tires wont fall off a Chinese Lotus Proton Elise.

Oh my a recall from Bentley. How many recalls do other manufacturers have? Lots so this isn’t really a big deal even considering the price for such an expensive car.

Incorrect bolts?

CTS DRIVER and RicardoHead, it’s something minor, most likely a supplier mistake, not Bentleys.

jJay, then they are defective bolts.

Incorrect bolts means they pulled from the wrong tray. AKA Bentley error.
Defective bolts means the supplier delivered substandard hardware.

Sure, incorrect wheel bolts may not be a big deal.. but think about it, how often does a component like this get redesigned, particularly at a manufacturer that only produces about 400 of these vehicles a year? At such a low-volume enterprise, how many different wheel bolts does Bentley actually use? I have to agree with DickHead, it has to be defective parts and not incorrect parts.

See the example of stupid rich people? They should have listened to me and got a Buick instead of this piece of crap. Now they are going to be moaning about their wheel bolts. I saw this coming. Just today i saw one on the highway with the wheels that fell off. I pulled over and laughed at him. He asked me if i could give him a lift in my G6 but i said no because he was too stupid.

This is really embarrassing. It almost makes me want to get a Rolls coupe, but your Continental coupe is just so sexy. Damn, what car is that? Benz CL600? Sorry Bentley

Incorrect bolts could mean Bentley was supplied with the wrong bolts, RicardoHead. And even if it was Bentleys fault, it won’t destroy the marque, being the stupid mistake it is. Just shows the incopetent (es) fool(s) at Bentley who ordered the part.

jayco8, a good q.c dept would have noticed but i will conclude it could have been the wrong material (carbon vs stainless)but the rite size and that can sometimes slip through, thats why i just said its embarassing for such a high quality car.
