Bentley Bentayga Hybrid to feature 'intelligent' navigationby Drew Johnson
The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid will automatically maximize its efficiency.
Bentley unveiled its all-new Bentayga Plug-In Hybrid at the recent Geneva Motor Show, but the automaker's press release was short on details. Bentley is still keeping the Bentayga Hybrid's technical specs a secret, but the luxury automaker has revealed one interesting tidbit about the SUV's navigation system.
Bentley says the new Bentayga Hybrid will come with an intelligent navigation system that will calculate the best way to maximize the efficiency of the SUV's gas-electric drivetrain. For example, the system will automatically reserve battery power for when it's most useful, such as driving through a city center. Bentley says that the system is so precise that the Bentayga will actually run out of battery charge just as the vehicle reaches its destination.
Set to go on sale later this year, the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid uses a more efficient V6 gas engine rather than the larger eight- and twelve-cylinder engines offered in other Bentayga models. Specs for the Bentayga Hybrid's electric motor and battery pack have not been announced, but Bentley says the plug-in SUV is good for 31 electric miles on the NEDC cycle.
A fast-charge system can top off the Bentayga Hybrid's battery in just 2.5 hours, but a standard electrical socket will require a lengthy 7.5 hours. Bentley hasn't announced pricing for the Bentayga Hybrid, but expect that info to drop later this year.
