If OHV is so cutting edge then why o why can't they get 100 bhp / litre from it, for prod versions? Why don't other (non US) mnfrs use it anymore?
I'll tell you why. Because it is not efficient to have metal sticks in an engine being thrown around.
But oh no, the world is wrong and we are gonna call it Cam in block.
Hmmm. The rest of the worlds really gonna believe that's a good idea, having thrown it out 20 years ago. I wonder how long the Mktg dept. took to think that one up.

Oh and sorry the characteristics of low end torque are totally available on OHC with the right camming despite what those clever, clever GM Mktg people want you to think.

Leaf springs. Hmmm. like on a horse and cart. Ok. that's real high tech. Prob gonna start calling them Power rods, or horizontal turbo planks. etc etc. Then someone will argue that coil springs were around first and therefor by deductive marketing oops reasoning, turbo planks are better.

GM don't build corvettes for the world, they build them for people like you.

No matter what the ZO7 or whetever they call it will still only be a Vette. Vettes are a dime a dozen all over the place, especially in California yuppy country. The only reason Chevy is going all out in the competition is because Viper was the original bad ass american power mad muscle machine with the true exotic look which turns ten times more heads and comes factory in a convertible! Try to find a convertible Z07.
Keep dreamin Chevy. You might match the power and performance 10 years after the first Viper but you'll never match the class!

I think that the car should be named stingray, that is a very appropiate name. It would show all the other companies that are comeing out with their old cars againt that corvette can slap a new car in, but kick every ones ass doing it. zo7 is the lamest thing ive ever heard, and ss sounds cheep like a camero! go with something new or Stingray!

As an ex-auto journalist for a major publication in Canada dedicated to automotive engineering and chassis design, and having built numerous kit-cars, tube-framed single seaters and a proud ex-owner of a C5 Z06 and an F-body IROC, GM is the best at building muscle cars. Unfortunately, that's all they're the best at, and have long been depending on this archaic image booster as a halo and not a source of revenue. Andrew, I'm sorry i posted during your bad-week-of-the-month, didn't mean to get on your feminist side. I had horrible reliabilty experiences with a brand-new sports car, and I will never again spend that kind of money on anything made in North America, aside from a house. It's just a big disappointment when you have to wait for 6 months to receive your brand new 85 grand (CAD) vette, and it shares low-end and cheap plastic parts with some of the worst reputed cars in the country. GM is doing the right thing with the Kappa platform, and hopefully that project will become fructicious within the next few years and save the company. But i said it first and ill say it again here, GM is thinking way too short term by investing its money and efforts that no GM employee will ever afford or drive. GM used to take pride in the fact that its employees actually wanted to own the cars they worked on, which is why they desperately need to start on that so-called 8-year long learning curve/ developpment plan to compete with the real moneymakers, the Accord, Camry and now the Mazda3 and 300C. If Ford and Chrysler are doing it, GM can too. With nasty nicheless cars like the HHR, you'd think GM has sullied their image enough to want to start seeing profits and stop the risk taking corporate maneuvers it's pulling these days. Or at least get Carlos Ghosn to move things around. At least...

The leaf spring suspension is a very well engineered peice. Its made from fiberglass, so very light and strong, but is not like a standard leaf spring in that it lays transversly across the car and each end connects to each lower control arm. Thus the car has a total of 2 springs, one for the rear wheels, one for the front. they also dont ride that rough as they say. The car is a remarkable peice.

STOP THE IGNORANCE, This is not exactly supposed to be a better all around car then a Lamborghini or n Enzo, People forget its 65 Thousand USD. That is a crazy bargain. Offcourse the interior isnt going to be as beautifull as a Spykers, but your getting amazing performance from the Z06, for a third of the price. Im not a GM or an American car fan in general, but for about 3000 thousand dollars, a friend of mine pumped the output of his Z06 from 505hp to 600hp easily (Tested on a dyno in New Jersey). So there are alot of benefits to having a vette, after all it can eat a Gallardo or a modena on a track anyday. GM needs to get rid of the interior quarks but then again it is an amazing bargain.

GM = SHIT, gotta agree with you about that unrefined 7 liter POS shit engine, but on a lighter note, America is the largest customer of Porsche and most exotic cars. Therefore, there are plenty of wise drivers (who choose not to buy GM), there might be hope yet!

Don't forget about the reported flying roof panel of the Corvette. This from a flagship sports car from GM LOL! Maybe they will use better quality glue for the reported bigger air intakes?
Maybe GM should better spend the development money by getting its mass market models right. For that 100k, I will get a low mileage Corvette ZR1 on Ebay, ship the car with the already impressive 375hp 5.7 liter DOHC engine to Lingenfelter and come back with a bored out naturally aspirated 6.7 liter with 610hp and 580 lbs/ft of torque with a bill of est 40k that is worth every penny. Plus I think that the C4 Corvette and its futuristic interior looks better than today's C6.

GMrules, you voted for bush did’ent you..?

"That is why smart people buy Corvette". Yeh a $100,000 unrefined 7 liter 600hp car with wishbone suspension and a total lack of steering, cheap interior, MASSIVE Depreciation, Very low ride quality and road holding. Yeh Smart decision… if you like live in Alabama.

GMrules you are clearly a flag waving yokel who is so blind to the rest of the world that you insist that an uncouth Vette is a better buy over all the other well refined, sorted, REAL supercars such as the CCX, Carrera GT, SLR ETC.

(No offence to any other Americans reading this but its people like GMrules that cause the stereotype)

(No offence to any other Americans reading this but its people like GMrules that cause the stereotype)

I just hope they make the interior of this thing better than the Z06 for GM's sake. Cuz I sat in a Z06 before at our school career fair, and the plastic interior was terrible. But I guess its still only a GM.

Apparently GMruled-out didnt actually own a Z06, just likes to claim it and then list what SOME car reporters, and the crappier ones at that, have said as detractors of the GM line. Unless you had a defective one, leaf spring noise has ZERO inicdents reported to CR and JD Power and the transverse spring setup gives a VERY tight compact system that when tuned as well as the Z06 is an exceptional system. And the STS/CTS line have been called the welcome change to GM interior crossover usage that hasnt been seen in years. Before you spout off crap like the uneducated non-car people that usually waste the space on this site you should actually read more then Maxim/FHM magazine's reviews of cars. And no, shown by the preorder by the few dealers that have GUARANTEED deliveries of the new car if released there is plenty of a market for this vehicle at the OVER 100k temporary price.. And also, there is NO market for GM to rush out a compact car and hemorrage more cash when nobody wants an American family car anymore, would take 8 years of GOOD R&D to realize the successes of the Accord and Camry and use that instead of the moronic Malibu/Cobalt production now

I hope this car will be as close to the GTR racing version as you can get with a road-legal car. Otherwise I can't see the point of this thing.
Oh and Vettes aren't very appealing. When I was in North America last year the place was flooded with those cars. Makes them look really bland. Especially if you consider that problably most of the owners could barely afford what they thought was a sports car when they bought the C06 entry model. I mean that car is a joke. Calling it a sports car and then fitting it with leaf springs? Gives the impression that they ran out of budget for its projected price tag, before they finished the development of the car.
The Z06, however, does seem like a finished sports car. I think people considering buying a Vette should save up some extra money, wait a bit longer and go for the Z06.

Call it whatever the hell you want but make it even more brutal than the Z06. For all the people wondering why people buy Porsches, Lambos, Ferraris, etc is because of not only the prefomance but the livable interiors and don't forget the snob factor. That said a Porsche 911 is the best performance car around especially for colder cllimates where they can be driven year round.

you know #15 youre right, at th end of the day youre still driving a chevy. which means more aftermarjet parts, cheaper parts and you know as well as anybody that chevy quality is going way up with their new ahoes and vettes. So yes you are still driving a chevy.

GMrules... you're a desperated case! You think that any one that doesn't buy GM is either blind or plain stupid...

#28 I totally agree with you. You can't feel that a car is great quality when the plastic between the Vette's stoplights are flexible as tupperware products!

Call it GM save your money and work on your ailing line-up of cars nobody wants to buy, aside from rental companies. I must say the zO6 is a hell of a great car, and having owned and sold a c5 Z06, this thing must haul ridiculous ass. Having said that, the materials and interior and rattles exude the upmost cheapness I've ever seen in a +50k$ car. The radio knobs haven't changed since the Sunfire, the steering wheel feels like a giant turd, and the rattles coming from the cowl shake and leaf-springs make me realize just how horrible the value of this vehicle is. I'm very happy in my NA-tuned 350Z and even happier in my Supercharged 96 NSX. GM is aiming at too high of a supercar club to compete with, and if I were Lutz or Wagoner, I'd dump the project immediatly and try to release an appealing compact and family car to make some well-needed revenue. GM will build it (ZO7), the customers will come. But don't expect for a second that someone will crossshop a factory tuner Vette with a true exotic supercar such as an F430, GT3 or Gallardo LE. It may beat them in numbers, but when you spend 100 000$ on a car, you want it to feel like at least that much, and unfortunatley all GM products have that chep feel to them, including a recently test driven STS-V. GM, learn to make your stuff solid and competitive, instead of claiming a niche to your own.

If I wanted a car to just race with, I'd get one of the Corvettes. If I wanted to drive it on the street, I'd buy a Porsche or Lambo, because they're fun as well, and have a better badge on them.

the Z06 is being criticized for its harsh ride, and hot interior...i would be afraid to drive this car more then a few miles. There was a recent article in Autoweek on the long term tester Porsche 911 and the guy says "I now understand that the guys who can afford the extra 30k over a corvette do it." and the writer owned a corvette. i would get some form of 911...or maybe a Caymen S and an Audi A4.

The Z06 makes a great track car, but I do not own a track and i would prefer a sports car that does not beat me up when I drive it on the road.

If you do not like Porsche, Ferrari etc thats fine you do not have to, but to say this will destroy them all is just silly.
