OK guys, let's be realistic. I've test driven one last year and I came away with mixed feelings. The car is basically a downsized 3 series, handling and braking are really good. It's the perfect city car, but probably too small for the American highway. The bad part is the styling and price tag which is only slightly less expensive than the 3 series. It's a nice toy but most will still consider the 3 series. It probably wouldn't sell in US.

theprofesional05: You're just another fool crying about Bangle's designs. It's interesting, many people whine about them, but the 7 series is a huge seller, as are basically all of his designs. If anything they have boosted BMW sales, so clearly there are other people, such as myself, that appreciate adventurous design in a segment filled with dullness. Maybe you'd say the same thing about the A3, who would buy it over an A4? Well clearly people will, as I've seen a few here and there, and if they did take the 1-Series over here it wouldn't be in huge numbers, its a niche market and it would be treated that way. I think this market is pretty sweet personally, the A3 is a fun and attractive ride, the Mini Cooper S proved that premium sporty hatchbacks can indeed survive in the U.S., and if BMW played its cards right regarding price and marketing the 1-Series could do well also. If priced significantly below the 3-Series (which shouldnt be hard considering how pricey the 3 has gotten lately), the 1 could be a new type of BMW for a new type of buyer.

Can't wait to see the coupe...it's gonna look excellent. IMHO the only awkward part of trhe design is the hatch but perhaps If they marketed the hatch as a 'shooting brake' then maybe that'd help people to get over their hatch hangups.

Seriously considering getting rid of my MKV R32 when this thing hits Dubai...although by that time I'll likely have modded the Golf R32 to make more power than even a modded 135i will have (R32 + chip, intake, full exhaust - 270-280hp, supercharger - 350+hp, turbo kits - expensive but up to 600hp).

Either way I'm sure this little Bimmer will make its owners very happy indeed! The R32 will be coming to the states soon so at least buyers will have some good options to choose from - I'd say that the Bimmer would be more fun to drive whereas the R32 will be quicker - than the 130 but likely not the 135 without mods.

Should be a very interesting turf war between the Mustang, new Camaro, Dodge Challenger, EVOX, MKV Golf R32 and BMW 135i...not to mention the 350Z and STi...all likely within a 15k spread of each other pricewise but each with its own particular balance of speed, handling, quality, ugradability and packaging. It's gonna be a really good time to be an enthusiast of average means!

i hate to say it but the 1 series does look better than the pitiful A3/S3 audis. but thats not saying much, the front of the 1 series looks like a chubby kid on crack and the back is plain just like any other hatch.

Time to troll and tell everyone how GM makes the best cars in the world. Oh yeah, I'm also having homoerotic dreams about Bob Lutz.

I saw one of these BMW's pulling a broke down GMC flat bed truck with a tow cable. Guess what was on the back of that truck? A Pontiac G6! Weird.

The 135i is coming first, so as to be on the cover of every car magazine for 2 months straight. Maybe even non car rags like TIME.

They will get a lot of press. Any other way to bring the 1 series to the US would be foolish. If this line up is to be see as legitimate , it must bring to the table street cred. No doubt the 135i will bring it. The rest of the line will bathe in the shadow of success

If you really want one. Get in line now.

They would be stupid not to bring the 5-door.. especially in light of VW adding a 5-door GTI to the US lineup this year, mainly because the Audi A3 has been stealing its thunder!

But will it outdo the A3?

Probably. That new turbo'd six in the 1-series would be a beautiful thing. Like really, totally awesome.

Hmm, i would still think that BMW would keep weight distribution near 50/50, right?

135i should post well under 5 seconds, if the coupe can do it in 4.9 already.

The 130i exists in europe already. it has 265hp and a zero to 62mph of 6.1 and a top speed of 250km/h or155mph. it only weighs 40kg less than a 3 series. If they make a 135i they should give it 25-50hp more and call it an M

Too bad no 120i. With less weight and better weight distribution that car would be a great urban daily-driver. Good for zipping through traffic, better fuel economy, braking, plus cargo room...

LOL Syrax. Gm#1 is rather worldly isn't he? He gets around.
I'm so glad they are bring this here. I just won't believe the 265+ HP part until I see them on dealers lots here. It seems like a lot of power for such a small car. Almost too good to be true. I mean, the A3 doesn't even come close to that. Maybe Audi will step up with the S3????

xeroblue, nobody believed in your story, we believed the billion plus number of blahblahblah that came from GM#1, let's remember:
1 - his neighbor Camry got on fire;
2 - a bunch of volvos caught on fire in the walmart parking lot;
3 - in london, TWO (coincidence?) BMW owners got in his cab..."Both of them said the engines just completely died for no reason";
4 - shitloads of toyotas in flatbeds, parking in a dealer in san diego
5 - in the same dealer, Tundras at 15k off;
6 - in michigan, a couple of nissans in flatbeds as well;
7 - A guy a block from him...this one is precious!!...hit a honda odyssey and a lexus with a baseball bat;
8 - a few more toyotas in flatbeds;
just to name a few...

Dear Lord.

As much as I'm going to laugh at those driving the new Lexus F with styling that's expected on a kindergartener's art easel, here's another ugly, easel display piece that's going to get ridiculed ... regardless of horsepower.

Like I've said, ugly by any measure.

lol XeroBlue.
NBot a fan of the hot hatch. Being over six foot and mostly legs may have something to do with that though. we'll see if the market responds to it. Though in realiy which manufacturer really canreact within a year? Audi? Toyota? I would say GM but you see how long its taking to bring out the Camaro.

Oh i know, it just goes to show you how inadequate GM brass is. Give me command I know I could do a better job. Lets be realistic. Its not hard to emulate. GM cant even do that rite. Look at toyota, BMW, Porsche, they all have great business models to emulate. I am afraid they are retarded just like GM#1hooker. Infact perhaps thats Lutz!

This is really BIG news as the formula is time proven. I've always wanted something to rekindle the fun I had with an MGB GT that I once owned. I will definitely take a look at this automobile when it arrives in the States.

It's hillarious how XeroBlue told a story about a car breaking down that's actually true yet gmhooker has told like 50,000 stories that were OBVIOUSLY made up. It's funny how he says to "quit making shit up" when he's the one who does it the most.

LOL. GM#1Hooker you would know they are happy. If it werent for domestics tow truck companies would be out of business. Why else would they put onstar in there. Cause nitwhitts like you w/ half a brain who cannot comprehend what a bad product is to buy a GM product. And then you get On star because they know your so stupid you'll lock yourself out, or more common you'll break down on the side of the road. Reminds me of that one time when i was driving my 2006 M roadster, oh yea i forgot you wouldnt know cause you cant aford it. But anyways as i was driving i came across this Hobo Jo in a Ponticrap G6. His hood was up and steam was erupting from his engine bay. I forget that thing has one of those...and engine. Anyways i picked him up, he told me gas leaked into the cabin and that his car almost caught fire. He was so impressed with my fast luxurious BMW, he said "boy i wish i could afford one of these...how old are you?" "I'm 26" i said, "if you work hard you can afford one too" i said. We exchanged numbers and he called me back after it was fixed. Funny thing, if the fuel pump hadent broke first, he would have caught fire and died! How do you like THAT!
