You'd think BMW would have stopped with the 5 Series GT, but now a 3 Series GT. Further supports the term 'butt ugly'

That's odd Borat. Because when I was behind a beige one on the Las Vegas strip, I thought it was pretty much the ugliest luxury vehicle I've ever seen (even uglier than the worst from Acura). But the worst thing is that the douchebag driving it put the iconic ///M badge on the back where the "550i" should have been.

But anyway, maybe this is a good business case. At least 90% of all car enthusiasts are BMW fans, but less than 20% of BMW enthusiasts can actually afford them. That means the rest of BMW buyers are a bunch of clueless badgewhores. If they'll buy anything with the Bavarian logo on it, why not throw sh1t against the wall?

zoomer two things.

1st) They say that it will be offered here. In a vague way they say it. They always do. Whether that will be their final decision remains to be seen. As seen with the 5-Series Sportwagon.

2nd) I agree. I hope they do get that hint. I'm surprised they haven't yet by observing Acuras ZDX failing as we speak. Granted Venza started this whole beefed up wagon trend but keep in mind, the average Toyota buyer will buy a steaming pile of sh!t as long as it has a Toyota badge on it. This 5-series GT is just not practical. Look at that sloped rear. It kills cargo capacity. Like what the f#ck is the point of it if it's gonna be impractical and to top it off its more expensive than a 5-Series Sportwagon. Might as well just bring the Sportwagon then. If anything BMW should try to make something to compete with the Mercedes R-Class. Atleast a 7 passenger wagon/crossover like the R-class gives a nice alternative to a full sized SUV and a Minivan.

That may have been intended as a sarcastic statement, but if you factor in the different body styles of each model, it may actually be correct! :)

GTR, I was going to post a nearly identical comment, but after reading the article (try it!) I see the 3-series wagon will be offered in the US as well. If the 5-GT isn't doing so great here, maybe BMW should take a hint and bring back the 5-series wagon.

I was next to one today under traffic light. Frankly, it is less of an eyesore then Acura's version and Honda Crosstour. I think in 3 series size it may look OK. Sort of like hatches of 70's (I liked those).

"In North America, the 5-Series GT has hardly been a sales success..."

Thus bringing us closer to answering the question of how many times does BMW need to be hit in the head by a blunt object before realizing it hurts. Apparently it's at least twice.

Great. Bye bye 3-Series Sportwagon, hello mishapen overpriced less practical 3-series gran turismo. Although with the introduction of the X1 here, I guess that pretty much will also steal some 3-series sportwagon owners.
