BMW 3-Series M Sport package revealed

02/14/2007, 12:39 AM

By admin

BMW has launched a new M Sport package for the new 3-Series coupe and convertible. Offered on all engine variants, M Sport cars come with a raft of additional equipment as standard compared to an SE model.

An M Aerodynamic body styling package gives the car a sporter look, while Sport suspension with a stiffer, and 15mm lower, setup provides a more focussed ride.

All models come with 18-inch M star-spoke light alloy wheels as standard with a differently styled 19-inch M Double-spoke light alloy wheel as an option. High-gloss Shadow line exterior finishes to the window surrounds is also a standard feature.

Inside, all M Sport models feature Sports seats upholstered in Blue Shadow cloth Alcantara, Individual anthracite headlining, M designation doorsill finishers and a short-shift M gearlever with a perforated leather gaiter and handbrake lever. A Brushed Aluminium interior trim and M leather steering wheel complete the package.

M Sport models are traditionally a popular choice for BMW buyers. On six-cylinder-engined 3 Series Coupé and Convertible models they account for more than three-quarters of all sales. The introduction of this latest generation of sports model is expected to maintain this ratio.

M Sport model cars are only available in a choice of four metallic colours (Titanium Silver, Black Sapphire, Le Mans Blue, Sparkling Graphite) and two non-metallic colours (Alpine White, Crimson Red).

I don’t like how they offer the M-package on non-M cars. It doesn’t make any sense. Owners of real M’s must get pissed when they see a debadged M-packaged 320i fly past them.

With that said, the car is gorgeous, I’d gladly take one, and good job by BMW once again.

I dont think any owner of an M BMW has any angst towards drivers of 320i’s with the M package. For the people in the know the difference is instantly identifiable. The fact of the matter is BMW makes the majority not on car sales but on accessories. This was told to me by several people who work at BMW HQ Munich. I cant recall exactly but i think the price of accessories added onto new car sales is 16% (on avg) of the base price.

Cool. The regular 335i coupe with regular sport package is pretty sharp already though.

I think what this means is that the upcoming ///M3 is going to be quite a bit more expensive that the E46. I’ll bet it tops out over $70K now. It will also be more hard edged.

I guess the M-sport will split the difference.

The 335i is plenty fast.

Those rims look like the same style from the ZHP Performance Package that was available starting in 2004.

I still say it looks like a chick car. Yes, I’m sure any BMW performs decently, but their styling has left a LOT to be desired for a long time now.

if anything the interior additions are worth the upgrade alone…alcantera seat inserts and anthracite headliners. i dunno, depends on how much.

Good looking car… *sigh* this is going to push the 335i with this option way over 50K… :-(

^^^ The S-Line is a sedan, this option is for the Bimmer coupes. The new coupes look better than any Audi.

Its true.

What the heck is “individual anthracite headlining”? Is it just black headlining or is the cloth something special?

amanda — it probably just means “black” , instead of grey or beige. Since Induvidual is capitalized, it must come from the BMW Individual division, how this is extra special I do not know, but it may be a higher grade of fabric.

I still don’t understand… this isn’t the actual M series right?

Cobradreamer427,
///M Sport is not actual ///M-Series (///M3, ///M5, ///M6, ///M Coupe, ///M Roadster).

About headliner: I think it’s just Black, although last generation of ///M5 (E39) had Black Alcantara headliner (not sure if it was an option or standard equipment).

Cobradreamer427: It’s basically an aesthetics M-Series look-a-like kit with a few sporty driving add ons. Am I right here guys? Correct me if I’m wrong. Bimmer seems to know what he’s talkin about

It is a cosmetics package with stiffer springs.

Nothing like a real M, which has significant running gear upgrades and a completely different motor.
