Spied Again: 2009 BMW 3-Series facelift

04/30/2008, 10:30 AM

By Drew Johnson

Surprisingly, the camouflage is nearly gone and the BMW 3-Series is getting ready for its mid-cycle facelift. As is easily seen, the front fascia will be slightly re-designed with a new bumper, modified fog lights a new and sculpted hood, and new grille. The chrome “eyebrows” above the grille are now gone.

In the back, we’ll be seeing new taillights, and we also expect an updated cabin and – as our sources in Germany are claiming – cleaner-running engines.

The update will also bring the launch of the twin-turbocharged 335i Wagon. Although the wagon is the only body style BMW doesn’t offer the M3 package on, it appears as though those craving cargo room and performance won’t have to wait much longer.

I like the 3 sedan better than the A4, but the A4 avant is much better looking than this.

It already looks like it’s going to fall apart and it hasn;t even hit the dealer lot yet. What are those wheels off of a Kia or a Chinese Geely? The whole car just looks uber cheap.

My my, how can I resist you?
It may be a BMW 3 Series and it may not be great looking, but it drives better than anything else on the market

One of the most useless mule camouflage I’ve seen to date…why even bother? It should do well in the States.

Yes, it’s on sale in Europe. Unfortunately, Canada gets only one Touring from each 3 and 5-Series. And , since 5-series gets 535xi Touring, 3-Series has to do with 328xi.
What I think it is a FACE LIFTED 3-Series.

Reminiscent of 1 series 4 door hatch/wagon sold in Europe. Easily confused from certain angle with Mazda 3 wagon.

I wonder if a M3 Touring is coming out, like the RS4 Avant and C63 AMG Estate..

“for the first time — the 3-series wagon will be available with BMW’s new twin-turbo inline-six.”

Er, no. The 335i Touring has been around for a while with the twin-turbo six. Perhaps this is just a facelift.

With all the nightmares and problems people have with BMW’s, I’m surprised this bunch of slimey German pricks are still in business. I wouldn’t accept a problem or flaw if this were a Cadillac, no unAmerican, self-righteous BMW fag should accept one of these German piles of trash either.

But they do.

I see a bit of Audi schnooze copying. Especially the lower intake below the bumper line is definitely Audiesque

Thank got the ghetto charms are gone off the hood. I wonder if BMW managed to remember to put the power window switches back on the center console.

New rear taillamps for the sedan, and a new interior would be welcome changes. Those are the two areas of the 3-series I don’t like at all. I sat in the new M3, and while I was overall impressed with the car, the interior was a major disappointment.

uh they better fix the taillights. They went way too japanese on the current design, the previous gen with the orange turn signals and very crisp lines were certainly much better looking.
