2011 BMW 6-Series Convertible [Spied again]

05/01/2009, 8:25 AM

By Drew Johnson

Fresh from Germany, we have yet more images of BMW’s next-generation 6-Series convertible. This marks the second time our spy photographers have caught up with the new 6-Series convertible but, surprisingly, we have still yet to see the fixed-top version.

Also to our surprise, it appears that new 6-Series cabrio will come with a traditional canvas top, rather than a retractable hardtop. This might be for technical as well as design reasons, since it’s difficult to find a solution for the stowing of a retractable top without cutting too much off the trunk/cargo area.

The camouflage seen here includes a fake rear window, which we’re guessing is to hide the fins of the canvas-top as first seen on the current model, and will apparently carry over to the next. Besides these fins, it’s easy to see that the overall shape of the new 6-series won’t differ much from the outgoing model, though refinements will be done to every panel.

The new coupe and convertible will be available again as 635i, 635d, 650i and models, with outputs of 300, 286, and 400 horsepower, respectively. Also expect to see a high-performance M model.

The next 6-Series should hit BMW dealers in late 2010 as a 2011 model.

i’v gotta agree with idrinorbarsaku, i think it looks ****.. i like the oval exhausts audi uses for there RS but i think bmw should stick with there quad round exhausts.. cant say i like this new 6 series, looks seriously grannyfied, the previous incarnation was not good looking but at least it was different.. this boring look will struggle to sell

@idrinorbarsaku I completely agree. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this exhaust styling started with the latest generation of the Lexus LS 460. Now you can even get a Mazda with the exact same style. I would much rather see the traditional Dual or Quads of old. Next BMW is probably going to add LED running lights to their design. Come on Germany! Bring back the creativity of old in your designs!!!

Lol, I don’t understand how anyone can comment on the styling of a car so heavily camo’d. If any of you saw that documentary on the building of the current 6 series you would know that theres more to this camo than just squiggly lines. In some areas they even add fake panels! I’m hoping it will look good but I’ll save my opinions on it for later. I agree with JIMBO… I love bangle style and hope it doesn’t fade

Like Bangle style but this should be evolutionary rather than revolutionary yet.
Hope for a 2012 completely new model.
