The Frankfurt Motor Show might be several months away, but rumors out of BMW’s Munich, Germany, headquarters indicate that the automaker will unveil the hybrid production version of its 7-Series. Last October, BMW unveiled a thinly-veiled concept version called the 7-Series Active Hybrid at the Paris Motor Show.
Though few details have been released, we’d expect to see BMW’s twin-turbo V8 engine mated to an electric motor. The 2011 750hi will rival the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid, which is set to be unwrapped this summer.
The two-mode BMW hybrid will be capable of driving solely on electric power, unlike the S400, which will use its electric motor as a reserve engine.
The 750hi will be unveiled at the same time as the X5 ActiveHybrid, which our spies spotted earlier this year.
