BMW Canada hits 3,000 monthly sales for first time

07/03/2009, 4:02 PM

By Andrew Ganz

While sales are generally suffering across the board south of the border, BMW managed to sell more than 3,000 vehicles in Canada for the first time ever last month. The German luxury automaker sold 3,003 BMWs in June, a 2 percent increase over the year prior.

Combined with Mini, the BMW Group Canada sold 3,531 cars last month, a drop of slightly less than 1 percent compared to the same period in 2008.

BMW credits an impressive 283 percent increase in demand for the Z4 and an 88 percent increase in demand for the range-topping 7-Series sedan.

Mini sales were down 15 percent in June, however.

looks like those Canadians are smarter than than most people south of the border, who stick to those tried and tested, POS, chrysler and GM products!

So 3,003 people got financially raped? At least BMW is doing it legally.

A RWD convertible and a RWD sedan had the strongest demand in Canada? How bout that.

A4, don’t get too excited, I’m betting 2,992 of those were sold here on the West Coast specifically Vancouver and Richmond where the winters usually aren’t that bad even though the drivers are. I suspect next month the local body shops will also be announcing record business levels.

I think all of those BMW’s are here in Toronto, along with their douchebag drivers. They really do drive like as*holes. Sadly, it’s an accurate stereotype…

I think most of those ’sales’ are in Toronto. Last time I was there, every other person was in a BMW or some import model. And the premium of a BMW in CAD$ is quite impressive over the MSRP of a similarly equipped US model, but apparently, the cash incentives attract customers to the BMW-fold. Don’t ask me why — 95% of cars that I have seen there are the entry level model without a single option… a bunch of posers.

I don’t understand the language here.
I think LLN means That BMW has sold 3,000 BMWs last month, and that the 3,531 included Minis, and combined they were well over 3,000 in ‘08. Little bit more explanation would’ve helped.

barsaku: I think Canadians are smarter than than most people south of the border, because clearly thay know what a REAL LUXURY CAR IS.

I’d argue that maybe Canadians are falling victim to the Monkey See – Monkey Do Buy a BMW pandemic
