BMW drops SMG transmission from entire Z4 line

BMW will not offer its automated manual transmission (SMG) on its M-badged Z4 roadster, according to AutoWeek. The transmission also will be dropped from less-powerful regular Z4 models, on which it now is offered as an option. The car will be offered only with a six-speed manual transmission, unlike BMW’s M3, M5 and M6, according to the report. (The face-lifted Z4 series is expected to debut at the Detroit auto show in January.) Recently, we reported that the BMW Z4 Roadster would become the first BMW to use an automatic gearbox with paddle-shift control. It’s unclear if that transmission will ever be offered in North America. Meanwhile, Tom Purves, CEO of BMW North America said Americans are unique in their affection for the manual transmission.

Actually, while SMG is gone, the Shift-Paddels are now standard on the Automatic.

I don’t think anyway will morn this change, every review I’ve read of the SMG-equipped Z4 regret its jerkiness and logic.
Is the auto a 6 speed?
