BMW launches Edition Sport package for non-M 6-series models in UK

08/12/2008, 5:06 PM

By Drew Johnson

In order to boost the sporting credentials of its non-M 6-series coupes and convertibles, BMW has launched a new Edition Sport package. The new package promises even better handling, and also spruces up the 6-series’ look.

From the outside, an Edition Sport-equipped car can be recognized by its unique hood and 19-inch wheels. Inside, the Edition Sport features brushed aluminum trim.

But the real meat and potatoes of the Edition Sport lie underneath. Thanks to new anti-roll bars, the 6-series front suspension has been stiffened by 10 percent and the rear suspension by 30 percent. The result is a more composed ride and overall improved handling.

650i coupes and convertibles fitted with the Edition Sport package also benefit from a freer-flowing exhaust system.

The Edition Sport package tacks on about £2,000 to the price of a 6-series on the UK, with no word on U.S. availability or pricing.

Package, schmackage. They should all be built this way. When you fork out for a BMW, you shouldn’t have to pay a premium for sporty.

Er, the first picture is an M6 though…

Something is off, the hood is flat on the M6, thats a new hood, but the bumper and mirrors are coming from an M6 which the rest of the pictures aren’t showing as part of the sports package.

weak,
i hate it when companies do this, M Sport packages and AMG sport packages just devalue and bastardize actual M and AMG vehicles…
its a retarded idea.

I think BMW made a mistake here. Why bother releasing a sport package for a car that already has a model thats “sport”?

Basically, what i’m saying is get rid of the base model 6 series, and make the base the “sport” package, while having “options” and then have the M6. 2 models, and then it’d make sense.

Why didn’t BMW just offer this as a facelift for the entire 6-series range?
