Despite slowing demand in the European market, BMW has reported its best-ever April sales. The four month period to start 2012 was also BMW's most successful on record.

Sales of BMW's BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce products surged 6.1 percent in April, totaling 145,505 units. So far this year BMW has sold 571,040 vehicle worldwide, representing a new company record and a healthy increase over the 519,958 vehicles sold during the same period last year.

"Following on from the best first quarter in the company's history, we have just reported our most successful April sales ever," said Ian Robertson, head of BMW sales and marketing. "We are well on course to achieving a record year in 2012."

In addition to setting a new company record, April was also significant for BMW as it signaled a changing of the guard. With 27,197 deliveries China became BMW's largest single market in April, beating out Germany (27,192 units) and the United States (26,793 units).
