BMW is anticipating a roughly 10 percent bump in sales in the US market for 2010 as a result of a combination of pent-up demand, special sales programs, and the introduction of a newly revised model.
BMW ’s executive vice president of sales, Peter Miles, said, “BMW hopes to end 2009 with sales of 198,000 down from 249,113 in 2008.”
Through October the BMW division has sold 160,666 vehicles in the US, which is down 26 percent when compared to the first three quarters of 2008.
A key factor BMW is banking on for increased sales is the anticipation for the release of the newly redesigned 2011 5-series sedan in early 2010. BMW is expecting sales to jump due to buyers holding off for the last quarter of 2009 in anticipation of a new model coming early 2010. The 2011 5-series sedan will feature an extensive re-working of exterior and interior panels in addition to possible new engines to compliment the new eight-speed automatic transmission.
