The recall covers BMW 5-Series, 6-Series, 7-Series, X5 and X6 models from the 2011-12 model years, as well as Rolls-Royce Ghost models produced between 2010 and 2011. The recall only applies to vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the vehicles in question could have left the factory with a faulty circuit board in their electric auxiliary water pump system. The faulty circuit board could overheat, leading to smoldering and possibly a vehicle fire.
The recall covers 2,846 vehicles wearing a BMW badge and 69 Rolls-Royce models.
BMW will remedy the problem by replacing the auxiliary water pump free of charger. The recall is scheduled to begin this month.
