BMW to celebrate X5 anniversary with special-edition model

07/07/2009, 5:28 PM

By Andrew Ganz

BMW will apparently offer a special edition of its popular X5 “sports activity vehicle” to celebrate the South Carolina-built vehicle’s 10th anniversary later this year. Expected to be called X5 Edition 10, it will feature commemorative badging and a special paint finish when it is introduced this fall.

According to Carscoop, the X5 Edition 10 will be available with either six- or eight-cylinder power and will be offered in a unique gray metallic paint, though BMW has not yet released an image or detail specifics on this upcoming model. It will feature 20-inch wheels, likely wrapped in the extra-wide 315-series rubber like in the 2009 model we recently tested.

Look for more details closer to the special edition’s launch.

Why show the world that you’re stupid by driving an X5, when you can show that you’re extra-special stupid by driving a special edition X5?

How original.. Mercedes-Benz had the ML350 “Edition 10″ in 2008.

Naw, the rubber has to at least be in the 400 series range before I’d consider this. 315s, get serious. Might as well be riding around on pizza trays.

^ I agree. I won’t buy any special edition SUV that doesn’t come standard with Michelin XOne’s.

Sounds like they are just trying to push though some ‘end of the line’ sales!

It is sad when BMW creates special edition with paint and extra rubber. If their own past tradition it should have better handling and more ponies from the mill, not wider rubber and grey paint.

They should add more flashing lights and hazard signs to it warning other driver of its intended mechanical breakdown. Get some of these import piles of crap off the shoulders quicker.

Buy American. Buy GM. It is our duty as Americans.

Hey BMW! How about a special edition that adds reliability to the mix. My (stupid) brother spent $60k+ for a vehicle that spent more time in the dealer service bay than on the road. He was driving a loaner 3-series so much I thought he actually had bought one.

Good luck with that Denverguy, It’s German. They don’t know what relibility is, just how to pork you with endless repairs just before the POS goes to the junkyard for catastrophic failure right after the warranty expires.

Buy American. Buy GM. There is none better
