Confirming earlier reports, BMW will take the stage in its home country with a high-efficiency sports car concept set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Though few details are known, the model could be based on the now-defunct M1 Homage concept car (pictured) unveiled last year at the Villa d’Este Concours in Italy.
“Sustainability is becoming increasingly important,” said BMW board member Klaus Draeger in a speech. “You will see a product of sustainable development at the IAA (International Auto Show) in Frankfurt in a few weeks in the form of a concept car. The BMW EfficientDynamics Vision will demonstrate how efficient a sports car can be. It will also prove that sustainability does not apply to the drivetrain alone, but to design and materials as well.”

The sports car is expected to be a two-seat, mid-engined coupe with eco-friendly features gleaned from BMW ’s EfficientDynamics engineering program. Whether the car will be electric, hybrid or diesel is up in the air.
