BMW has confirmed that a high-performance M6 Gran Coupe will arrive in U.S. showrooms next year. The standard version of the Gran Coupe, the 640i model, already on sale on these shores.

In a recent interview with Motor Trend, BMW spokesman Dave Buchko confirmed that the M6 Gran Coupe will make its U.S. Debut sometime in 2013. The M6 Gran Coupe will go toe-to-toe with Mercedes-Benz' CLS63 AMG.

Power for the M6 Gran Coupe will be provided by the same twin-turbocharged, 560 horsepower V8 used in the M5 and M6. That power will be routed to the four-door's rear via a seven-speed automatic transmission.

It remains unknown, however, if the M6 Gran Coupe will be available with a manual transmission. BMW offers the M5 with a manual transmission and will soon add a row-it-yourself option to the M6, but the German automaker has yet to comment on the availability of a third pedal in the M6 Gran Coupe. The U.S. is the only market to get manual versions of the M5 and M6 and BMW has already confirmed that a manual gearbox won't make it to the next-generation of either car.
