BMW may extend the contract of its CEO Helmut Panke, according to Automobilwoche sources cited by AFX News. Panke’s contract ends in May 2007. If extended, it would be against the company’s internal rule that dictates that board contracts expire the year after the member turns 60. Panke will turn 60 on August 31, 2006. BMW has been especially successful Panke, and the German automaker likely wants to continue his role in the company.
