Why in the world would you want to change such a great little sports car that attracts everyone who see it. I own a 2002 Coupe, and love it. I get 45.3 miles per gallon, Everyone asks what it is, wants one when they hear the MPG. Why would you come out with a vehicle that loses the appeal and enjoyment of ownership for a vehicle that has no appeal. Just keep what you have. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I'm not posting here to defend myself.... just to re-state what I think BMW/Mini missed an oportunity to do.

Remember the BMW 3.0 CSL, the BMW 2002 turbo or even the E36 M3 lightweight? At least those cars where significantly different enough to justify a special status or even the price. This "last" MCS special model could have been much better. To me it is no better than my 2002 JCW MCS and spending that kind of $ for what they're giving you makes little sense.

I'd compare this offering being like the MC40 that was sold a couple years ago. A lot of big to do about very little... mostly stickers and a limited run. Why bother?

If you're going to make a limited run vehicle..... at least make it worth buying.

I think that they have the right idea. They could have done better however. BMW has several cars with all-wheel drive they should have come up with one that would fit in the Mini. The loss of weight is good and if it does compete with the Evolution and the Impreza than all the better. if they really got serious it could increase the sales and also reinstate the Mini Cooper in Rally Racing. They are headed in the right direction and they are still one of the most original cars on the road.

Ouch, Frank H. is bitter. Did you miss the deadline to get one. Dang. Well Frank I hear what you are saying about some of the ways to lighten the vehicle, but in the end it is a special edition car that only 2000 people will ever have. Something tells me in the Lancer was put out in the same limited format there might be some left over for the following year. JCW is the best to have gotten to do this model and it is a great way to end out the model design. There is a reason all of these have sold and they are one of the most popular compact cars not only in Europe but the US as well. Well Frank I will let you know how it drives, sorry you feel so angry, maybe you should wait for the Lancer GP, yeah...that sounds good.

Sounds like another glorified factory Cooper S to me. All the "modifications" on this car sound like adding standard JCW parts to a standard S and deleting the rear seat, adding a special front spoiler and then charging a premium for it. Why pay big money for that? Red mirrors? Why? Ugly.....

What they really need to do is go the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution route. Make alloy body panels to lighten the car (rear roof, front bonnet, wings and door skins) that'd take out easily as much as just removing the rear seat. Then strip the sound deadening, rear seat and other bits out for a truly light weight mini (probably under 2400 lbs). Then do suspension and engine mods for almost 260 hp (it is possible as it has been done).

Then you'd have a car worth buying. Not this piece of factory advertising!
