BMW releases Vision EfficientDynamics teaser video

08/27/2009, 10:56 AM

By Drew Johnson

Ahead of its anticipated Frankfurt Motor Show debut, BMW has released a teaser video of its forthcoming Vision EfficientDynamics. Not much is known about the Vision EfficientDynamics concept, but the vehicle is tipped to be an environmentally conscious sports car.

The teaser video hardly gives anything away, but at the end we do get a glimpse of what appears to be the concept’s tail section. The highly-sculpted taillight and corresponding sheet metal is one of the most futuristic we’ve ever seen and seems to hint at the concept’s overall philosophy that less is more.

Although yet to be confirmed by BMW, our sources have indicated the Vision EfficientDynamics will be powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder engine mated to a hybrid drive system. Output remains unknown but the Vision EfficientDynamics concept is said to put a heavy emphasis on performance. Despite its sporting intentions, expect the concept to boast fuel economy ratings in excess of 50mpg.

Check back for more details as we near next month’s Frankfurt show.

Every once in a while, BMW manages to produce some of the cheesiest ads that have ever been filmed or printed.

I miss the BMW films, “The Hire” series.

Looks like a rear right tail lamp. And possibly aero bits similar to those on an F1 car? (well, the 2008 season)

I’m pretty excited about this concept. For a second I reminded me of a Bertone Mantide, but who knows from a small preview like that!
