BMW working on Mercedes SL-fighter?

04/07/2006, 9:51 AM

By admin

Germany’s Autobild magazine recently ran a cover story on a new car from BMW purportedly designed to compete with the Mercedes SL-Class. The car appears to be a roadster with a folding hardtop roof. We’re not sure if the report is speculative or based on insider info, because we have yet to see the accompanying article. Nonetheless, the image is interesting. Will this be BMW’s much-rumored “Z10″? Full image after the jump…

Well, in BMWs defense, that image is so fake it probably IS an MB SL.

I thought the BMW 6 series was the SL fighter?

Anyway that car in the image looks great and I hope BMW makes it.

6-Series: 2+2 Coupe or Convertible.

SL-Series: 2-Seat Roadster.

Agree w/Captain America – beautiful car but obvious SL rip-off. But I’d definitely rather have the BMW!

Very nice, if it makes it to production. I like the new taillight design that BMW is planning to establish across the model range.

Z4 competes with SLK, 3-series with CLK, 6-series competes above them, just below the SL, with 8 cylinder CLKs.

This is proof that BMW needs something better than the 6-series to compete against the successful Merc SL.

Judging from the image, I think it looks exactly how a BMW SL-fighter should look like.

All this means for us is better cars. More competition raises the bar. BMW is the only company that can compete well with Mercedes.

BMW should bring back the 8-series.
