Spied: Facelifted 2011 BMW X5

09/21/2009, 1:12 PM

By Drew Johnson

BMW will be updating the X5, and these latest photos from Germany show the changes. This light mid-cycle freshening update – basically and nip tuck here and there – will include new front and rear bumpers, and modest updated headlight and taillights.

This new X5 is expected to make an official entrance before the end of the year. Details are unknown, but expect the X6’s twin-turbo V8 to appear under the hood of the revised South Carolina-built X5, replacing the naturally aspirated V8 currently used.

Also expect BMW’s latest iDrive to grace the updated interior with its presence.

I hope your mom gets along with me cause she’ll be fisting herself when I pull up to your driveway in one of these. She won’t give your dad a 2nd look when he pulls up in his Malibu.

vicdub85 – Just look out for the rusted out Camero’s and Firebirds in the front yard growing flowers. Dont want to scratch your new paint on those pieces of American revolution =)

I hope those updated taillights include amber turn signals. God I hate the red signals on Bimmers nowadays! It may seem trivial but when you see amber, you know the car is changing lanes or turning INSTANTLY. Red also sucks in direct sunlight.

Just as ugly and low rent as your typical BMW. The Cadillac SRX is king here. Everyone would rather drive a quality, reliable vehicle than some German pile of crap that will put you in the poorhouse. That’s why everyone would rather drive a vehicle made by General Motors.

@obess: I know exactly what you mean. It may be a small detail, but a detail nonetheless. I also heard that rear amber turn signals may become mandatory for just those safety reasons when signaling. Moreover cars without the rear amber turn signal IMO seem to be missing something or just not as classy. Anyhow, this is an exceptional SUV for its class and one that GM should try and be more like. Assuming that the FX and the X5 do not directly compete against each other (correct if wrong), I would rather take the FX50 over this.

Be American. Buy whatever you want.

i love this website but seriously LLN do your research. those bumpers are from the M Sport aerodynamic kit. i see them on the road now.. and go on the bmw website and you’ll see them there..exactly the same.

This car has had no major updates since the first one was made. Like the current Ranger.

Get an MDX. Better value at less cost. But thats my advice. — buy what you feel is best suited for your needs.

Obsessed– i agree, I hate the way American and German automakers will integrate the turn signal into the brake light.
