BMW X6 production run sold out for 2008

05/08/2008, 8:26 PM

By Nick Aziz

The BMW X6 is undoubtedly a controversial vehicle. Many critics have labeled it an answer to a question no one asked. But, according to BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer, it’s already a blockbuster success. At the company’s annual general meeting, Reithofer said the first production of the X6 is already sold out.

“The new BMW X6 is best proof of the popularity of the X model range,” said Reithofer. “Evidently, many customers were waiting for such a vehicle. The total 2008 production volume is already sold out.” The comments were made during a speech touting the forthcoming X1, among other future vehicles.

While the X6 is “sold out” for 2008, that doesn’t mean you can’t still get one — it might just be hard. All the X6s are already sold to dealers, and the majority of dealers have a waiting list already. In some markets, it might be possible to find a dealer who still has an X6 available — it’s just unlikely, especially in big cities.

No surprise BMW already sold out this thing. Hey its a nice little high performance SUV, something the domestics don’t know how to make, hence their very poor sales. If I was in the market for a high performance SUV, I would spend my money on the new Infiniti FX. 0-60 in 5 seconds and kick as styling and quality makes for one sweet machine.

Now this I definitely don’t get. The minuses of a big heavy SUV with the passenger compartment of a compact hatch? Wouldn’t you be better served in one of the ix sedans?

funny you say that but i couldve sworn chevy made the trailblazer ss and jeep made the cherokee srt8. the srt8 does 0-60 in 4.7 secs and the 1/4 in 13.2@105mph. it is lower than the other models and gets its stopping power from brembos on all fours

Sales numbers mean nothing … as long as there are dufuses to spend money, you can sell **** pies and someone will buy them.

Spinning this into a success is pathetic. This thing is a **** pie.

This exemplifies the BMW for all the pussyfarts that like to pretend they can drive when they really can’t. It’s powerful, trendy and expensive, but if it ever came down to a real pissing contest with someone who knew how to pull the 9/10ths rabbit out of their cars ass even with half the power, the X6 driver would fold like a WalMart tent after a particularly noxious fart.

Image car. Nothing more, nothing less.

It seems people will buy anything oversized as long as it is an SUV or some other similiar name. I’m starting to think more an more people are havin erectile and/or size impairment problems seeing the rate at which crap like these sell…

Amen to that, BlackX. I’ve driven a 535xi wagon with the 300HP twin-turbo and that thing was a hoot to drive. The X6 has that same engine or an available 400HP version. In any event, it can’t be much heavier than the 5-series wagon. While I don’t have any statistics to back up this claim, I’d bet the X6 with either engine would hold its own against the SRT8.

Tsueg, the X6 is about 1,000 lbs heavier than the 5 series wagon. The 300hp X6 is just shy of 4,900 lbs and the 400hp is over 5,200 lbs.

Stinky, to elaborate on you point of view: the erectile disorder can be cured by this car ONLY if pantyless hairesses and music &TV celebrity will be stepping out of this vehicle. I saw this concoction in NYC car show and had disorder myself for a full day (post battle trauma).

Man you guys are way out of line. FIRST it’s not a SUV, second have any of you looked at one in person or have driven it. It has more usable cargo room than the X5 below the window line. Can fit 5 sets of golf clubs, it is a SPORT ACTIVITY COUPE< its a four seater. holds you like a sports car. It is for people who want the visablity and the camanding view of the road but want the handling of a sports car, THere is nothing else out there like it so stop trying to compare it. Go drive one hard, and tell me that you could not fall in love with it. BMW’s are all about the way they drive. And if you have not looked at the price its only a few thousand more than the X3. Looks are not everyting. Its about the heart and Sole of the vehicle.

Also thank about the achivement here. Its 5,000 thousand pounds runs under 6 seconds to 60 using only 300hp? the V8 twin turbo that’s not out yet, I did have the chance to drive on 5 to 5.3 seconds 0-60 for a rig that’s about 5,500lbs, using 400hp 450tq. Thats the same 0-60 time for the 650i

foster1, I saw the vehicle in the show and was not impressed with its looks. I could not drive it, since it is not available yet. I probably will not drive when it will be available, because I don’t like it looks. 5000lbs to propel 4 people is insanely wasteful. I am not eco-nazi, but “why?” has to enter the mind as well as “who will need this?”. For supreme status symbol BMW already owns RR.

I think the X6 is every kind of car put into one. Its a sedan, coupe, crossover and suv all in one. thats probably why many people will like it is because it is versatile.

Its been availble for about a month, it hit dealer showrooms in the west coast a on April 20th. So almost a month. Wasteful, well yes and know most buyers of a larger suv only has 2 passangers most of the time so this makes more since. Fuel ecomomey is not bad either. the diesel will be here later this year with 40mpg highway.

I don’t believe this one is slated for a diesel: 335d & X5 are. I did not see anything about X6, perhaps something was written somewhere and I missed it. But even in 335 diesel highway mpg is within mid 30’s not 40’s.

xyunya: Same reason why Toyota is selling so well even if they make average quality vehicles. In this business it’s all about perceived image. Poor taste or not, that’s subjective… what’s real is the cash they’re making off those products.

35000 first production run. BMW X5 X6, same chassi worked for em, think I’d know. Diesel is going to come first in the 3series not 335i any ways, diesels are called 335d not i, but they are not sure if its going to be called a 335d or a 328d or 330d since it is a 3.0. Never said what diesel was going in on the x6 more than one options, same as 6 and 8 gas, Fuel MPG or high performance. Drove the 3series d great car 272hp and 427tq
