BMW has traveled to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California in order to reveal the Zagato Roadster, a one-off concept car that is based on the regular-production convertible version of the Z4.

An evolution of the similarly exclusive Zagato Coupé, the Roadster's all-aluminum body was designed and built in just six weeks, an amazingly short amount of time. It is clearly recognizable as a Zagato-designed car thanks to the Z inserts that are found in its trademark kidney-shaped radiator grille. Furthermore, BMW says that the roadster's soft top was designed to retain Zagato's signature double-bubble roof.

The Zagato Roadster's interior is nearly identical to that of the standard Z4 convertible. The seats, the steering wheel and the door panels are upholstered in light brown with black accents and Zagato's "Z" emblem is prominently stitched into both headrests.

Technical details about the Zagato Roadster were not released but the concept is said to be fully functional.

The concept cars that BMW has revealed at prestigious car shows over the last few years have always been one-off models that are not slated for production and there is no reason to believe that the Zagato Roadster is any exception.

That said, the concept likely hints at the styling direction that the next-generation Z4 will take.
