Brabus builds police-issue CLS Rocket

11/16/2006, 6:13 PM

By admin

Every few months, a tuner or automaker comes up with a new ultra-powerful police car for a lucky law enforcement agency to drive at high speed while enforcing the laws of the land. We’ve seen a Lamborghini police car, but a Gallardo is hardly a practical law enforcement vehicle.

That’s why Germany’s Brabus and teamed up with the “Tune It Safe” program to build a police versrion of the “Brabus Rocket” souped up Mercedes CLS. The V12 four-door has been described as the fastest “sedan” in the world, capable of reaching 62 mph in four seconds thanks to an amazing 730 horsepower.

Generally, police cars like these — capable of 225.19 mph — don’t make a lot of sense, but Germany’s unlimited speed highways mean the cops might actually be able to enforce laws without simultaneously breaking other ones. The car is on display at the Essen Motor Show this month. Gallery after the jump…

How will they catch that Hyabusa that just flew past ‘em? ;)
With the Fuel mileage that thing gets, doesn’t look like they will be pulling many people over on long pursuits.

Damn, that is rediculous
but gorgeous

They should replace those lights with the LED ones the cops have in the States to improve aerodynamics, or the ones that go inside the windshield. But with a 225 mph top speed I dont think they’ll bother

Egbert,
Im no expert but im almost 100% sure that that lightbar will rip off anywhere around or above 200mph. Atleast the roof will start pulling where it is bolted down from.
Wanna know how to loose one of these if you see yourself getting pursued by one? Just exit and start taking turns, something this probably won’t do well. All that weight will definately show in the twisties.

and i thought European countries were better at investing tax dollars. even if they were to police the streets with ferraris… the tax dollars would be better spent then in America tho. =/

As far as taking turns is concerned, I know the regular CLS55 AMG made it around the Top Gear test track quicker than a Viper SRT-10, although not as quickly as an M5.

more practical than that gallardo. at least you can arrest someone and not have him sitting shotgun.
as far as the light bar….. they should have at least been LED’s. At 200+ im guessing aerodynamics becomes an issue. Lights in the windshield would have been the best choice.

That is great but the civilian version is 510,000 US are they going to spend that much on the cop car as well? kind of ridiculous.

complaining about the weight? i mean,l it’s a cop car, it needs to be able to take some hits, that is also why it can “only” do 0-60 in 4 sec, give it some credit, that is still fast, most cars in the world can’t do that
. Plus, i think it would be pretty good around corners, it isn’t just tuned to its engine

I’m pretty sure that no taxpayer money has gone towards this car. This is something that brabus had made as a flight of fancy in order to promote thmselves. They might donate it to the police later. The gallardo cop car was a present from lambo to the italian police. Ferrari and lambo used to do this so that the police wouldnt be to harsh on ppl they caught speeding in their cars.

holland used to have a couple 911s in order to catch high speed cars. but they became too expensive so they dont have them anymore.

That light bar has the aerodynamics of a barn door.

is it possible to have anymore people making the exact same comments about the lightbar?

especially since this car is so fast that it will outpace the light emmanating from the bar, making it completely unnecessary.

Doubt Brabus had one iota to do with the bar. Probably specified by a second party manufacturer. Different jursidictions have different requirements about the visibility needs for service vehicles. The aeros probably are bad, but that is also probably secondary to the need to be noticed.
