In March, Forbes reported that Mercedes had no plans to build an AMG version of its new GL-Class SUV. The truck was simply too heavy and cumbersome for such performance modifications, the report said. But that hasn’t stopped Germany tuner Brabus from creating an über GL. The turning firm has put together a package for the vehicle, offering up to 462 hp for a 0-62 mph time of just 6.0 seconds. Top speed moves to 155 mph, and peak torque reaches 454 pound-feet at just 3,100 rpm. As always, Brabus offers a body kit to ensure the hotrod SUV looks the part, and various wheel choices from 18 to 22 inches. To help keep all 6,000 lbs under control, Brabus fitter the GL with 12-piston brakes on 15″ rotors. Gallery after the jump…

That should help reduce the population of soccer/football moms down some. The regular GL I drove did not seem all that great so I am sure this one with another 100 horsepower is just going to be stupid.

It is not. Merc dealers are already offering huge discounts on regular GLs and they are a brand new 2007 model. The discounts aren’t to the level of the R-class yet but they are approaching that level.

Looks cool, but really I’d rather take a Cayenne Turbo S in black.

This “thing” doesn’t look like something Mercedes would make at all… It’s really… big and ugly looking to me. GL I don’t believe hasn’t been selling good anyways like British Rover Pointed out

We have taken one GL450 in trade. It had a MSRP of 64,000 dollars in change and had only 1,700 miles on it. The most we could give them was 51,000 or 52,000 and that was a very big stretch. I think they paid about 60,000 for it.

These people just could not take how painful the GL was to drive anymore. Also the wife was concerned that the third row seat was unsafe. It was very difficult to get in and out of and you could only get out on the passenger side. Also the power folding seats would fold down with someone sitting in them. The safey catch did not retract the seat till they were actually pressing you against the back of the second row.

those comparing this to the cayenne and the x5 are silly.
this DOES NOT compete with those vehicles, rather it is the ML class which competes with the cayenne and the x5. there is no competition from any other german maker for the GL class, however, i have heard that the new x5 offers 3 rows of seats as an option. is that true?
