Brabus Mercedes CLS the “world’s fastest sedan”

06/27/2006, 8:33 AM

By admin

It seems the Mercedes CLS can be either a coupe or sedan, depending on what seems most appropriate at any given moment. To Mercedes, it’s a cool coupe. To German’s Brabus, it’s a sedan. Why? Because the tuner’s CLS-based Brabus Rocket hit a speed of 227 mph (362.4 km/h) this week, making it the fastest “sedan” in the world. The car has a twin-turbo V12 engine from the latest Mercedes 600 models, pushed to an incredible 730 horsepower. The car also offers the fastest acceleration for any “sedan” — 0 to 62 mph in 4.0 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 10.5 seconds, and 0 to 186 mph in 29.5 seconds. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a modified five-speed automatic transmission and the Brabus locking differential. The car has 11-inch-wide tires at the rear plant the power, and massive 12-piston brakes in the front with 15-inch rotors to keep all that power under control. Lastly, the car has has a custom-calibrated height-adjustable coil-over suspension system. Gallery after the jump…

11 inch wide tires? I think a Civic has wider tires than that…

That steering wheel will get very dirty soon if you’re eating fries while driving!

if you want a race car, buy a race car. Whats the point? isnt it a bit like being the world tallest midget? Who really cares… there are much taller people out there just as there are much faster cars.

I’d be disappointed if a 730HP sedan wasn’t “the world’s fastest sedan”.

Nice piece of engineering, but drop the vulgar wheels.

Bart, it’s WIDTH not diameter.

That’s awesome!… but it’s still one hideously ugly car. :(

It’s a nice car, but I doubt it’s the world’s fastest sedan. Modified Evo’s routinely get faster times than this car.

Very cool. The extreme sport sedan. Can’t wait for Dinan to tune an M5. Then we’ll see sparks. Ronald, just get scotchguard or do like I do, don’t eat in the car. Wheels were ugly. Get some Kinesis rims.

Toy Yoda they said worlds fastest meaning top speed not acceleration and I don’t think that there are any evo’s goin 227.

0-186 in 29.5 seems impressive but makes you appreciate the Bugatti Veyron which does the same sprint in HALF that time – wow!

And the Bugatti doesnt look like a complete Nazi-mobile either :)

This car is sick. Although I think the Veyron is a brilliant piece of engineering; a technical exercise we probably won’t see for another decade, this car puts amazing numbers down, while still having more than one passenger. Although I wouldn’t say its “practical,” if I had to drive a Sedan to work, your looking at it. Another thing- the rims aren’t the best, but don’t tell me if you say this car going down the road you wouldn’t **** yourself. Look at it. Anyone driving this car is a badass. Until the new M5 gets seriously tuned, or Audi decides they want to put a twin turbo V10 in their new RS6…this is the king of 4 doors.

This sedan kicks ass. Brabus took the amazing styling of the CLS one step further with this car. Still, it does seem really expensive. $437,000? Not sure I could justify spending that much money on one car.
