Jack Roush, known for his life-long efforts in several automotive racing fields including with NASCAR and a longtime partnership with Ford Motor company, crash-landed his private plane last night in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
According to reports by the Associated Press, as well as photos posted on Twitter, it has been confirmed that Roush was piloting his jet-powered small plane when he was forced to crash land at the Wittman Air Field.
“There are injuries. Possible surgery,” Roush Fenway Racing president Geoff Smith said in a text message to AP. “But he walked out of the plane.”
Roush’s team released a statement stating, “Dr. Kevin Wasco, the attending physician, says that Roush is in serious but stable condition.” Wasco explained that the injuries are indeed serious, but not life threatening.
According to a report by the Greenbay Gazette, witness Mark Yarnell, of New Philadelphia, Ohio said, “It looked like a bad approach and he over-corrected and then crashed.”
The reason for Roush’s visit to Oshkosh is based on his love for aviation, as he was attending the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual AirVenture.
Roush, 68, was involved in one other air crash in 2002 when the plane he was piloting crashed into a lake near Talladega, Alabama. Roush was knocked unconscious in the crash, and was saved by a retired Marine that saw the crash.
