The Corvette Z06 is “one hell of a car on paper and in the flesh,” according to British auto columnist Tom Bird, writing for Channel4. “Yes, for less than 60 grand, you can really play with the big boys, just as Corvette did last year when they blew away the likes of Ferrari , Porsche and Aston Martin at the Le Mans 24hr endurance race.” German and Italian supercars often mean exclusivity, but an opposite perspective is equally valid: “For some, me included, the sheer fact that it’s not a German uber-vehicle makes the Z06 extra-special,” writes Bird. “OK, so maybe outward visibility isn’t great, and it’s only a two-seater, and the interior is hardly the last word in fit and finish – but with 505bhp lighting up the rear tyres and a V8 soundtrack to die for, who cares?” He also praises some of the car’s simple pleasures. “There’s no fancy electronic launch control or flappy paddle gearbox to contend with – just a good ol’ six-speed manual box connected to the rear axle and your right foot.”
