As if its 50th birthday wasn’t enough of a celebration, the Jaguar E-Type has been named the United Kingdom’s favorite sports car ahead of the annual Silverstone Classic vintage motorsports festival later this month.

“Britain is famous for its sports cars but until now no one has ever been able to say which one is the best. That’s a long-running debate we have now put to rest,†said Silverstone Classic Event Director Nick Wigley in a statement released to members of the media.

Organizers of the world’s largest classic motorsports event say that they’ve lined up nearly 60 E-Types ready to hit the track during the July 22-24 long weekend. In addition, they’re hoping to put more than 1,000 E-Types in a parade on the 3.66-mile Grand Prix circuit in order to break a world record.

Silverstone took a poll of 3,000 visitors to its website to crown the E-Type the country’s favorite sports car. Not surprisingly, second and third place also went to fellow Britons – the Morgan and TVR Griffith, respectively. But the E-Type netted nearly a quarter of the votes.
