Bugatti's Veyron-replacing Galibier sedan was storming towards production last we heard, but the French automaker has reportedly put the breaks on the project to ensure the car is an "argument stopper."

Bugatti head Wolfgang Durheimer is said to be disappointed with the Galibier's levels of comfort and performance, forcing Bugatti engineers to go back to the drawing board. Reports indicated that the Galibier might have been ready for a 2012 launch, but Durheimer's new standards will undoubtedly delay that launch date.

"In his opinion there should not even be a question about the best car in the world when you sit down to discuss it with your billionaire buddies," a company source told Inside Line. "He doesn't want to build it until it's the car that finishes the argument, not the car that starts it."

The Galibier's improvements will focus on increased rear-seat room and more power, with the latter ensuring the Galibier will arrive with at least 1,000 horsepower.
