This looks much like an Audi Le Mans racer with a top. Or it might be a Bentley Le Mans racer with styling differences. A 900 kg car like that needs only about 700 hp to reach 250 mph though.

I can’t imagine Bugatti going the route with even more than the 1000+ hp already on tap, even though the FXX, the MC12 Corsa and the Zonda R prove there’s room for trackday specials.

CAR Magazine reports Bugatti will use its powertrain for a limousine, twinned with Bentley. I think that’s more likely.

I couldn’t pull up the German site, but if El Aleman’s right, then what a waste developing a V12 and not milking the W16.

But if LLN’s right, then, Bugatti might actually not lose money on this car. Bugatti always said that the Veyron’s W16 was capable of much more than 1001 hp, so the Lydia engine is probably not tweaked by much.

Designing a new body is probably expensive, but let’s face it, as part of VAG, Bugatti’s people have the Bentley Speed8 and Audi R8/R10 know-how to tap into for what one person rightly said was essentially a street-legal Le Mans racer. There is a market for hyper exotics, including those cars that don’t offer much beyond the more plebian variants (think, Reventon vs. LP640).

Now if Bugatti’s got the powerplant, the materials sciences, and the aero package without much fuss, and then more than doubles the Veyron’s price…. might not be that dumb a move afterall….

well, why not… königsegg and the like sell their cars, too, and that for quite some time so far… the sheiks will buy it… i doubt there will be too many of them on the tracks, but hey… thats the case with almost any supercar…

I remember seeing a video of the new M3 vs a Veyron. Holy ****. Makes you realize just how insane the Veyron is.

I think Bugatti likes pushing the envelope. The Veyron was a design exercise to develop the ultimate GT. Whether you think this is a waste or not, I for one am glad they built it. I love to see what is possible. I mean 250+ mph in a roadgoing vehicle that your grandmother could drive? The thing is an engineering masterpiece.

As far as the Lydia, we’ll see. If it is as dominating on the track as the Veyron is on the road then all other track day cars are now second class citizens.

LOL However, that road head feature mentioned before would be a good option to add.

I’m gonna say that Bugatti owners don’t realize there’s a world beyond the one they live in. It’s like we’re cattle that just graze along in the valleys. They just look down and laugh, and occasionally drive by in their Veyron.

If this thing gets made be ready to see some ‘Gring times shattered all over the place. Just looking at this design from the side and the back all I can see is LeMans. The low sweeping design is almost identical to any LeMans car so I think we all know where the overall design shape spawned from. This thing is going to smash! End of story.
