The Bugatti Veyron supercar is slated to end its production run sometime around 2012, but that doesn’t mean the Volkswagen -owned automaker is ready to ride off into the sunset quite yet. According to a new report, Bugatti is working on an all-new high-end model to fill the void when the Veyron ends production at the beginning of the next decade.
However, the new model won’t exactly be cast from the same mold as the Veyron. According to Autocar, Bugatti’s next car could be a four-door sedan intended to take on the best from Rolls-Royce . The Bugatti sedan would likely have an increased focus on performance, but could ride on the same platform as the next-generation Bentley Arnage – which is scheduled to arrive in 2012. Biofuel and even diesel powerplants are being considered for the Bugatti sedan, but the project has yet to get the official go-ahead from VW.
While a Bugatti -branded sedan remains up in the air, Autocar reports that an uber version of the Veyron has been given the green light. Although it’s hard to imagine an even higher-performance Veyron, Bugatti wants to send the Veyron off with a bang by offering a ‘GT’ version. The standard Veyron’s 16-cylinder, quad-turbocharged engine will remain intact, but Bugatti engineers have reportedly increased horsepower to over 1,200 and torque to about 1,106 lb-ft. Thanks to the power boost, the Veyron GT should be able to hit dizzying speeds of 270 mph.
