Bugatti mulling super sedan, set to produce production-ending Veyron GT

08/24/2008, 10:23 PM

By Drew Johnson

The Bugatti Veyron supercar is slated to end its production run sometime around 2012, but that doesn’t mean the Volkswagen-owned automaker is ready to ride off into the sunset quite yet. According to a new report, Bugatti is working on an all-new high-end model to fill the void when the Veyron ends production at the beginning of the next decade.

However, the new model won’t exactly be cast from the same mold as the Veyron. According to Autocar, Bugatti’s next car could be a four-door sedan intended to take on the best from Rolls-Royce. The Bugatti sedan would likely have an increased focus on performance, but could ride on the same platform as the next-generation Bentley Arnage – which is scheduled to arrive in 2012. Biofuel and even diesel powerplants are being considered for the Bugatti sedan, but the project has yet to get the official go-ahead from VW.

While a Bugatti-branded sedan remains up in the air, Autocar reports that an uber version of the Veyron has been given the green light. Although it’s hard to imagine an even higher-performance Veyron, Bugatti wants to send the Veyron off with a bang by offering a ‘GT’ version. The standard Veyron’s 16-cylinder, quad-turbocharged engine will remain intact, but Bugatti engineers have reportedly increased horsepower to over 1,200 and torque to about 1,106 lb-ft. Thanks to the power boost, the Veyron GT should be able to hit dizzying speeds of 270 mph.

damn……if Bugatti were to make a super-lux sedan it would have to be in the area of the Maybach so it wouldnt compete with Bentley. just a little better and more expensive than its Rolls Bentley counterparts…you know just to sift through the “cheap” rich people.

A million dollar super sports car toy is a lot different than a sedan. I don’t think a Veyron-priced super sedan would sell nearly as well as Veyron does. You simply can’t get that much more luxurious than Rolls / Bently / Maybach (which it would have to be), and for ultra-high performance I’m sure people would want to stick with their sports cars. An M5 is one thing, but taking 3 or 4 of your very brave friends to 250mph is just too crazy.

VW should try to produce a Bugatti car that flies. The uber-rich could use flying cars. With 1200+ horses, it just might work!

A new high-end model as a direct replacement for the Veyron sounds good but not so much the idea of a super-sedan.

the sedan isn’t gunna be as high perf. or high priced as the veyron… if its competing with RR & Bentley, expect it to be a more performance oriented version of the two i mentioned in the same price range.

“You simply can’t get that much more luxurious than Rolls / Bentely / Maybach.”

Hate to burst the bubble but Bugatti was making serious luxury cars before Rolls and Bentley were and ages before Maybach. Bugatti are the masters of luxury and their older cars are more sought after much more than almost any classic automobile. Fast forward to 2008 here we are with just the Veyron but if you were to look inside the Veyron or sit in it as I have you will realize that even in their monster former record holding coupe the quality of materials and the build of those materials is far above most automakers. Wait for this sedan because it is going to blow minds.
