Bugatti builds, delivers 100th Chironby Drew Johnson
Chiron No. 100 was purchased by a customer in the Middle East.
Most mass-market nameplates see production runs of 100 units or more every day, but that century mark is a lot more elusive for a hand-built hyper car like the Bugatti Chiron. But today, that milestone was finally achieved.
After nearly two years of production, Bugatti announced on Thursday that it has produced its 100th Chiron. The milestone-marking car is currently on its way from France to its new home on the Arabian Peninsula.
Like all Chirons, car No. 100 is a special order that's finished in dark blue carbon, but uses a matte finish that was a first for Bugatti. The Chiron's Bugatti side lines are painted in Italian red, and the wheels are finished in mink black. Bugatti says the car's interior is mostly red. The cost of all that Chiron customization? A cool €2.85 million ($3.35 million).
"I find the 100th Chiron especially pleasing. It is dynamic and elegant in equal measure," said Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. "This car shows that Bugatti produces highly individualized masterpieces of automobile craftsmanship that are simply unparalleled."
Bugatti is currently producing about 70 Chirons per year. Bugatti says it will cap production of the hyper car at 500 units.
