Trooper 1: "What I meant about patriotism is that domestic car companies have relied too much on the patriotism of its customers instead of winning new customes with better quality and reliability."

It ain't 1986, pig.

Cause everytime that the pigs have got me
y'all rub it in with the flying Nazi
military force, but we don't want ya
Standin' on my roof with the rocket launcher
"So fly like an eagle."
But don't follow us wherever we go
The shit that I'm saying, make sure it's heard

Yikes!!! Recalls happen all the time. Like the one for bad floor mat design causing pedle problems. Or ones for a bd trunk bolt. Those arent a big deal. But engine fire risk on over 200k vehicles is huge. I'm glad I dont drive a Ponticrap.

That is a typical and incorrect way of thinking. Toyota and Honda are not American Companies. They are Asian. Both companies build cars all over the world just like Gm and Ford. GM, Ford, General Electric, IBM, Chrysler, Microsoft, Boeing etc etc are American companies. Granted they all produce some of there products in other parts of the world but they still are American companies run by Americans. At one time companies like RCA, Curtis Mathis and Zenith were all American Companies that produced almost all the TV's in the world. Due to cheap imports in the beginning(hence early Toyota's/Homda's/Datsuns)that evetually turned into Japanese Electronics domination and then buyouts and mergers that led to the demise of any electronics manufactures in the U.S. The steel industry is another example, furniture industry, textiles, and now the auto industry is taking the hit. Granted much of the auto industries woes were it's own fault due to big mistakes made in the 70,s,80,s and early to mid 90's, it is no longer the case.
The auto industry is one of America's last remaining great industries.
The cars you mention, Accord and Camry are made here, not because the big shots in Tokyo want to help Americans work, it's because we are the one's that buy these cars as well as other made for our market only, Tundra's, Pilots, Avalon's, Seqouia's, Titan's, and so on. They are made here because it is cheaper to make them here without the cost of a union, zero legacy issues like in there own home market, shipping across the ocean and the risks associated with that. Why would they say produce a Tundra in Japan when basically no one whom lives there would a)want one and b)be able to drive it in a country the size of California. You use very few examples, the majority of domestic cars are made in the states with at least a 75% or better content. Last time I checked Mexico and Canada were still part of "our shores". Your perception of "well it's built here" always baffles me especially considering the amount of people on this site who think just like you. I'm sure you like living in the U.S. and I'm sure you are a good citizen whom enjoys the freedoms to say, do and buy what you want , when you want. But I for one would prefer that my children have a choice of working for an American company in America, whether it be white or blue collar. The path America is on, all companies that sell and manufacture all and anything in America will all be companies with corporate headquarters elsewhere. Do you realize what other types of countries that do not have there own industry or headquartered companies are? Third World countries, thats who.
Yes I know, LimpDick640, say something that is beyond intelligent as it's obvious my level of thinking and education is far aboves yourself. But go ahead, say something like I'm a third grade dropout homo that sucks greasy dicks or something thats retarrded like yourself.

I'm not arguing, just saying that in a global economy the question of what's "American" doesn't have an easy answer.

What's more patriotic: buying a Mexican-assembled Ford, a Canadian-assembled Chrysler, a Chinese-engined Chevy Equinox, or a US-assembled Honda or Toyota? "Domestic content" only counts parts -- shouldn't it consider labor too, or are foreign assembly workers irrelevant?

A 2006 Mustang has 65% domestic content. Pretty good. But a 2006 Ohio-built Honda Accord has 70% domestic content. And a 2006 Toyota Camry built in Tennessee has 80% domestic content. What's more patriotic to buy?

I've yet to meet a Trooper that was'nt a good ole boy redneck.
You are correct to a point Trooper1 about wearing of the American Flag.
the Marines are the only branch of the military that does not include a patch of the American Flag on any of it's uniforms. The Army does so from dress to combat as well as the Air Force dress and flight suits. All first responders have the American Flag somewhere on them. Olympic Athletes, pro sports. Fed Ex drivers have an American Flag patch on them. Does this offend you, I would hope not. Yes I agree some greasy piece of garbage should stick to all white wife beaters but clarify yourself.
Actually limpdickhead640, I'm a white American but since you claim to be black I thought I'd throw some race in there for the hell of it. You took the bait and made all realize you are a racist regardless of what race one is. You are a retarded idiot whom is only on here to piss people off as you no very little about cars and certainly with you biased retarded attitude, you definetly cannot be an auto enthusiast which is what this site is all about.

Lack of patriotism is also what will flush this country down the shitter. We'll just keep buying and buying without any regard and eventually it'll catch up. America can only go so long not having any real exports. So if you really give a shit about where you live you might want to take note of where things are made... and rock an american flag shirt.

I owned two GTP coupes. No need to worry about the fire hazard - they can't brake hard.

What I meant about patriotism is that domestic car companies have relied too much on the patriotism of its customers instead of winning new customes with better quality and reliability. This is why domestics have been left so far behind the pack, they are too dependant on someone buying their vehicles just because its a domestic. This is what I call foolish patriotism, its blind. As for those proud hicks who wear the american flag on their shirts, technically you are violating American flag etiquet. The flag should never be worn as clothing, and those rednecks walking around drunk with their stained american flag shirts are actually being the most disrespectfull to the flag.

I always wonder how a company like GM with all its R&D can overlook something like this. Domestics have a long way to go before they can match the quality and durability of todays Japanese cars. And when they do finally reach todays Japanese standards, the Japanese will be ahead again with even higher standards.

I don't understand this discription, "if the oil gets beneath the manifold's heat shield", it'll cause a fire? It's already inside the manifold, what heat shield is there in the manifold? At any rate, that's kind of crazy.

Interesting, I was thinking about buying one of these cars before I bought my Thunderbird SC (also has a 3.8L S/C V6). In all of my research I never heard about this being a problem.
