Am I the only one who this that if you replace the grille with the Mercedes grille that it looks like the new C-Class? Buick has always been a dud brand. They never caught my interest, nor my imagination. A rear wheel drive car may be a step in the right direction, but they need imagination, not live in the days when their customers had 5 strands less gray hair than now.

With Buicks growing success in China and a dominating force in the luxury arena here in the US, it is smart for GM to bring over some of the foriegn offerings to share with the US buyers. Americans have been asking for more models for a while since sales of the hot Lacrosse and Lucerne have dealers struggling to meet demand.

This car would make a great replacement for the legendary Park Avenue.

Pretty much to what I said before...

Barry is right. It's a different view on a different market. The Chinese economy is growing at a phenomenal rate at the current moment, and people can afford *more* expensive cars. They most likely view them as big, American sedans, like alot of people around the world probably view Americans- Fat, rich pigs.

Does that mean we're all like that? No.

Barry:
you have a point
magV: probably emissions and safety rules make producing top cars for us. Almost every 4n automaker has better products at home than they sell us

CarLord - actually, the "old people" demographic is growing...baby boomers. If it weren't for so many illegal aliens entering the US, we'd have an aging society. Thus the hippie Dennis Hopper talking about retirement plans on television.

I think GM has finally realised that it is possible to design a vehcile that attracts both middle aged and older demographics. It's a new philosophy, the difference between it's "good enough" and "we want to be the best".

LOL, a chinese designed Buick that looks so much better than what they offer here in their own homeland. GM could let the Chinese buy them out and they'll probably fare better given China's aggressive strategy at controlling marketplace.

Does GM even care about their precious American worker anymore? Half the **** coming from oversees? Are we just completely inadequate?
Comment by GarbageMotorsCo, posted

Living under a rock, are we? Do you think that GM likes to move production and R&D dollars overseas? NO! I am confident that if the UAW would let them, they would rather keep things here. They need to be global in order to survive. They can not afford to keep appeasing the UAW by doing things only for America at an exceedingly high price. That puts them at a disadvantage. You call them GarbageMotors, but then scorn them for doing what is NECESSARY for their survival. Ignorance is bliss...

Designed in China is one thing but built there and sold here? Please GM don't do something that stupid. Then again Americans have become so stupid they probably would buy it just because it isn't made in the US!

Here we go... AMGoff's foolproof plan to resurrect the storied Buick brand...

Bring the Chinese Park Avenue over to replace the Lucerne and call it... wait for it... the Buick Roadmaster - big, powerful, rear drive sedan.

Keep the Lucerne because despite what some think it is a nice car. Rename is the Buick Park Avenue - big, comfy, front drive sedan.

Kill the American LaCrosse and bring the Chinese LaCrosse, rename it the Buick Regal - larger midsize competitively priced sporty sedan.

Bring this Excelle over and name it the Buick Century, hell maybe even the Skylark or the Electra - affordable, well equipped, entry level sedan.

Build the Velite with cues from the Riv concept and name it, well.. the Buick Riviera, duh! Two door, personal luxury coupe/hardtop convertible.

Finally keep that beautiful Enclave just the way it is. And there you go, Buick has a complete, competitive lineup.

Its a universal unwillingness to change. They need to turnover managers both internally and on the floor. Jackjimturkey has a point, I'm not a big union fan but the brass has been trying to eek out profits for decades by cutting corners to maximize profit where as in the other markets they had to build competitive products to sell and when they look globally. Gosh darn, look at all the good products we sell over here and over there but not here in the US... Its a classic Homer Simpson *DOH!*

Big surprise! Reason US Buicks are the way they are is because of who they cater to and the image Buick has here in the states. Old ppl. The same old demographic Caddi used to have, until GM brought in the edgy styling and more youthful marketing campaigns. There is nothing wrong with this however the reality is this demographic is dying, thus your sales will follow suit. In China they dont have the old man stigma attached, and they can feel free to design cars accordingly.

Buicks built outside the US might look better, but I don't think that's the main factor why they sell better in China than in the US. I think it's more an image factor where Buick as a brand in China is more upscale and luxury than in the US. In China, owning a Buick means driving a big American with luxury and class associated with it. In the US, Buick is looked upon as cars for pensioners and middle aged families.

They can bring the China built cars to the US, but they'll have a lot more work to do with the image of the brand before they'll sell as well as they do abroad.

sunshine: Go away

jJay: your rundown is about right. I'd say the chevrolet sedans have been boring since the '96 Impala. Godd enought to rent, but too boring to own. The Saturn Aura is one of the two best four-door family cars, but it doesn't do anything for me.

garbage: I think the foreign workers get more room to roam with their imagination. Here, people don't want to step on the bosses' toes. We get the half-assed HHR

Wow, you can really see the Hyundai Elantra styling cues.

So it's Saturn stuff from Germany, Pontiacs from Australia, future Cadillacs from Germany and now future Buicks from China. Mix in the Mexican Chevys and what does that say about our own home grown products?

Does GM even care about their precious American worker anymore? Half the xxxx coming from oversees? Are we just completely inadequate?

I'd like to know what information Sunshine has to conclude that this Park Avenue is outdated with its technology? I agree that it is sad when China has better appealing design language than the North American division. Has anyone seen a LaCrosse lately? Ughh.... When the universal response to your anchor car is "ughhh" you are going to have sales problems. From what I've seen, they should import all the chinese buick models since they all look better.

Sunshine1810...

Not all of GM's cars are pitiful. For the past 10 years GM has come out with boring, under competition vehicles, until recently. GM's improved a lot of their vehicles greatly, making them just as good if not better than their Japanese counterparts.

I've personally sat in a few of GM's redesigned vehicles.
The Chevrolet Tahoe's a much fuller looking car- when I mean fuller looking, I mean windows don't look like simply pasted black stickers, things fit together soundly, interior's nice. It's an enormous improvement from the last generation Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Chevrolet Silverado is a much improved truck- the interiors very nice, the ride is comfortable and very stable, fit and finish is well. The one thing I noticed though, compared to other trucks I've driven, it has an extremely nice ride and quiet interior, better than most sedans I've driven. Once again, HUGE improvement from the last generation.
I don't have much to say for Chevrolets Sedans- I haven't really driven or sat in any of them.
I can't even begin to describe how much of an improvement the GMC Acadia is from the Envoy- It looks great, feels great and I wouldn't brag about interior, but it's not bad at all. It's getting great praise and safety ratings. Same goes for the Saturn Outlook, and Aura.

But Buick, Hummer and Saab... I can't say any more than "improve" for either of them. The Buick Enclave is the only good thing I see coming from Buick currently. Saab needs to get it's quality and interiors up (note, I didn't say performance or safety though). Hummer needs to come up with a car that captures what the H1 did, but make it better equiped for the road without loosing off-road qualities, have active fuel and cylinder management, and run on alternative fuels- and market it for these qualities! Buick needs a sort of halo sedan right now- I see GM doing rigorous work on their SUVS and bread and butter offerings, but not the median of the two markets (premium markets, that is).

If they bring the Holden based Park Avenue over here, while your at it possibly bring other Holden offerings over for either Pontiac or Chevrolet. I agree with what Roadmaster96 says- make it styled like the Velite show car, upgrade ALL interior components, and it would be a hit.

This car with styling cues from the veliite show car and priced like the Lucerne is now would single handily save Buick in this county. The Enclave is flying of my local Buick dealership’s lots. This proves the brand still has something to offer if it’s potential can be brought out.

I'm not sure what you mean by "loosely based" but if you take a look at holden.com.au you'll see that, apart from the grill, headlights and dashboard, they are exactly the same car

I didn't know Buick could sink even lower. Every car GM produces is garbage. The pictured Buick Park Avenue is Buick's best but compared to the competition, it is still outdated with yesterday's technology.

the Sky and Solstice are on Kappa.

The interior of this Park Avenue is stunning and is what Buicks should be in America. The exterior, IMO, needs a bit more of the beautiful Enclave treatment. I am very excited for the Alpha platform here in the states. Before Buick, I think Pontiac needs an inexpensive, high-performance RWD sedan, based on Alpha. Give the luxury Alpha to Caddy in the BLS. BPG dealers do not need competition on the same lot.
