Road and Track has handed out some honors that may be more important than any ‘car of the year’ — or is that car of the week? — awards. Associate Editor Mike Monticello’s favorite long-term test car is the Cadillac CTS -V, which “is nothing short of phenomenal.” Also standing the test of time is the now-discontinued U.S. Volkswagen Phaeton. “Our VW continues to pull in the miles, easily outdoing any of our other long-term cars.” The R&T team didn’t have as many good things to say about the Mazda RX-8. “A barrage of rattles and vibrating bits has shown up, a blown speaker continues to annoy and a pulsing brake pedal means the rotors need turning soon.” While unexciting, the Toyota Prius continues to do its job well, offering over 40 miles per gallon and minimal maintenance costs.
