S5quattro. Like you, I love the new S5 coupe. I think it’s sex on wheels. I’d grab one up for my daily driver in a heartbeat, but with a base of 51k? and even for a decently loaded on I’ve seen surpass 60k if that’s what a CTS-V coupe costs, or less (not trying to base my judgment off cost alone, seeing pricing hasn’t been released yet for the CTS-V coupe) if it competes price wise or is cheaper than the S5, as much as I love that car if I was in the market between the two my mind is already made up.

(Although I still prefer the styling of the S5 over the CTS coupe)

plus GM employee discount helps as well…

the only thing bad about this car is the rear window. Is it a window or a sunroof; it can’t be both caddy, make up your mind.

Cadillac has done an amazing job with the CTS and CTS-V.. and GM would be wise to build more future Cadillacs off versions of this platform (STS/DTS replacement for example) instead of dipping into the GM FWD parts bin once again.

Also, Tornado, the RS5 will probably list for at least $70,000. The RS4 had an MSRP of $66,000 and I’ve seen S5’s with window stickers pushing close to $70k

From the pictures, I’m not a fan of the rear end, but I’m going to wait to pass my judgement when I see it in person, sans camo… The power numbers on the other hand, are quite intoxicating… Funny how Caddy has become GM’s cool car brand… And no, I haven’t been converted, as with A4, I’m just giving props where props are due…

Well we can honestly say as Americans that we have a high performance luxury coupe that doesn’t suck like the XLR. Thank God that car is gone. The Germ’s won’t be laughing anymore. Although they will heavily criticize the rental grade interior that GM cant seem to rid from their designs. But I’m so glad they didnt go the Lexus route by making this a hard top convertible. Real men don’t want a open air coupe. We want a sunroof, hard top, and a strong V-8 to kick an Audi and BMW’s ass. I’m not a strong American car fan, but we build some kick ass supercars from the Solstice to the Viper.

Also, the big horsepower war is over in Germany. The Americans have just put their cards on the table, and now the major trend is going to be downsizing – as already proved by the switch back to V6 power in the S4, with predictions of the V10 being phased out across the Audi lineup and the future S4 possibly even going to a 4 cylinder. Also, it has been widely speculated that the next M3 will return to inline 6 power. Maybe they will have a bit more power, or the same power as what they have now, but they are most likely going to look for better economy, and lighter weight, with power jumps coming in 3rd as far as importance. The future wont be more horsepower.

Tornado – 420 horsepower is a 136 horsepower deficit to this engine, and it has been widely predicted that the RS5 will have around 470 horsepower, which is a significant jump over the RS4/R8 4.2, but like i said, is still roughly 80 horsepower below this car. Not sure what youre trying to argue.

Also, this car does look good. Being that I live in “Rural Michigan” I have seen it on the highways and whatnot. I actually saw a reglaur CTS Coupe for the first time at the beginning of summer. They do look good. A5 / 3-series coupe good? Not to me, but certainly a worthy foe for a G37. That is where I have always put Cadillac, on par with second-tier luxury brands like Volvo, Infiniti, Acura, Saab, and of course Lincoln (their number one competitor). All of those companies make great cars, just not BMW, Audi, Lexus, and MB great. Tier one great.

I don’t know about the RS5 being on that much of a deficit. The previous, B7, RS4 had 420 hp. The EXACT same engine as the R8 V8. If they take that, and improve on it. It should fair well. I would take the RS5 and M3 before this car too but for the cost advantage that this car has, it is a nice realitive “bargain”. I expect the RS5 to list for a bit more than $60k. This car, loaded, will likely barely hit $60k.
HOPEFULLY, with Audi’s recent trend of supercharging, they will supercharge the existing 4.2 in the R8 and B7 RS4 and get it to the 500 hp mark in the RS5. Keep in mind that Audi and BMW life cycles are almost at opposite points. BMW will be redoing the 3-series/M3 in the next 2 or 3 years whereas Audi just redid the B7 to the B8 for the 2009 model year. Audi will have to start out ahead of BMW so that when BMW redoes their M3 in 2 or 3 years, the RS5 is still competent.

Cadillac sucks because they’re part of GM. No one will buy a CTS coupe when they can get a mustang for cheaper. GM and Buick both should have been axed by Obama. By Ford, Lexus, Toyota and Honda instead.

I’d be surprised if there’s going to be much of a weight advantage compared to the sedan. This is all about personal preference and that’s absolutely fine. I’d be very hard pressed to think of a model which offered both where the coupe didn’t look better than its sedan counterpart. And since the CTS-V sedan already looks great the coupe should be absolutely stunning in real life.

The RS5 is going to be very good, but at this price point every other automaker has a 100+ horsepower deficit, and the RS5 will probably have an 80 horsepower disadvantage as well. I’m all for Audi, obviously, but considering how insanely fast, balanced, and… German-like… that the CTS-V sedan is, this can only improve on the 4-door and will likely accomplish the type of upset Hyundai was hoping for with their Genesis sedan in the large-luxury market.

Being an American nameplate as opposed to a German one known for miserable reliability and quality issues galore, the decision is even easier. Everyone would rather drive a GM vehicle so good luck getting one without paying 10 to 15 thousand over sticker.

Looks good except I am not a fan of those wheels. For some reason, even on the sedan, they look smaller than they actually are. This car looks bulky compared to an M3. I know it will be fast but it will need more than just straighline speed to beat out the M3. The M3 coupe is BMW’s nicest car and while the M3 sedan gets beat by a CTS-V sedan, the coupe is MUCH different.
We’ll just have to wait and see. I do like what Cadi is doing these days, even if I don’t like GM as a whole.
