Just so everybody is on the same page here I feel it makes sense to point out that the comparisons between this vehicle and the Audi RS6 Avant require one VERY large disclaimer. Price Tag (unofficial but likely) for the CTS-V Wagon $65,000, RS6 Avant $158,614. I think a $100,000 price difference warrants some notice. Also to everyone who keeps quoting the Acceleration of the Audi RS6 as being better than the CTS-V please re-reedfast the manufacturers claimed 0-62 times for these two autos. CTS-V 4.0s, RS6 Avant 4.6s. I’m not sure where all the numbers people are throwing out on this post are coming from but it might be wise to actually check into the facts before spilling out uninformed opinions. Also of note this car is not necessarily EVER to be produced but for my part I hope it is so we can all watch, Audi, Merc, & BMW quiver in their little space boots a little more.

That looks like a Buick but it will probably cost 2 or 3 times as much or more and will sell poorly, if at all. Another poster child for the failing US car industry.

Wagons don’t work in the US when companies want them to fail. I was at an auto show checking out the CTS wagon. Nice vehicle. Then I walked over a couple of feet to the SRX, which was priced $6000 LESS. So, it’s the stupid pricing strategy that Cadillac has that will doom this model. On the other hand, it seems I see more and more Jetta Sportwagens all the time, so there is a market for wagons in the US.

Guys, it’s simple. Here’s why we Americans don’t like wagons. Two reasons: visions of the Bradys jumping into the wagon to go on their trip to the Grand Canyon and wagons flourished in a period of time called the 70’s, which largely we would like to forget. Bad clothes styling during that period, bad car styling, bad hair, bad music (disco), you name it. That’s why wagons won’t work. It embodies the 70’s.

It looks like a winner… anywhere but in America. For some reason we just don’t like wagons much. Even very good looking and performing ones, the DODGE MAGNUM comes to mind. Europeans do, more than SUVs. With a sporty and reasonably well-selling number like the SRX, I don’t know if the CTS-wagon is really aimed at the US market but EUROPE.

Acceleration should be great, but it’s a shame that it’s as fugly as it is. I’m a wagon guy and I think this thing looks all wrong.

Very cool, but that’s priced out of my league. I’m still crying about the fact that the Pontiac G8 was discontinued before they could bring over the wagon version. That was the one I wanted, even though I bought the sedan.

I would rather have a powerful wagon…like the rs6, than an suv. I would rather spend extra money on an engine for a wagon than have to spend extra money for sake of having an suv.

Either way if it will sells in volume or not, no one needs a 556 hp W A G O N. I believe people would rather have space like an SUV than have a fast wagon. Something tells me this would be the first CTS-V wagon and the LAST CTS-V wagon.

The only wagon I see on the roads that is new, is the Jetta Wagon. I don’t see Mercedes wagon, BMW wagon, or anything, It just simply wont sell in my honest opinion. I look at it this way, It will create hype like the 300, Magnum and Charger did when they first came out, and die down a couple of years later, like it was never even made.

coco, you made my point. The Flex is a crossover. Lots more room than a wagon.

The definition of a wagon that one gave as a Sedan with a back end is pretty good. The old SRX is about the only vehicle in the past that came close to being a wagon and that did not sell well (all the others died off).

And again something must be good about crossovers. They outsold wagons like mad. They meet a customers need.

And I am not about to buy a bus when I can get by with something smaller. Again, let the market/customer decide. If someone puts out a 15′ powered skateboard and it sells, good for them.

carstuff… did I say it would sell in volume? no… I just said that when someone says they prefer a 7 passenger bus of an Enclave to a sports car with a roomy trunk, that person needs to reflect on their life and wonder where they went wrong. I’m not expecting more CTS-V wagons to be bought up than Enclaves, especially with the price difference, but I do expect more CTS wagons to sell than many people think. What Caddy needs to do is compare the wagon to an SUV in their ad campaign and they need to make it sound better. Problem is, the best SUV’s to use for comparison are built by GM too. I’m sick of Americans also somehow all of a sudden needing capability for 7-passengers. Back in the 70’s if you needed that much room you were a Partridge and you rode around in a bus. In the 80’s you bought a Caprice. In the 90’s people bought SUV’s because they were cool and now people buy them cause they have to pack an entire daycare everywhere they go apparently.
Stick the 3.6L wagon up next to an Infiniti FX45 and a Lexus RX in the commercials and then finish the ad with the CTS-V wagon flying in to Led Zeppelin’s Rock and Roll (thus reviving that brilliant ad campaign) and have it run a circle around the Infiniti and the Lexus (sideways with plenty of tire smoke) and then have 2 people jump out of the RX and two people jump out of the FX and they run to the CTS-V and get in that instead, all giddy with excitement. That’ll make people want a wagon.

sure, reedfast, i saw value in that video…i’m not a mechanical engineer, so seeing how their differentials worked was cool for me…i can see it being beneath you if you build your own torque-vectoring awd cars at home on the weekends for fun, but i don’t think that’s the majority of us, ya know?

In regards to the Old RS4 gettin that ring time. it sint so hard to believe. The old RS4 was a beast, it bestest the M3 at the time in every test, it was infact the reason BMW started putting a V8 in the M3 in the first place. The only reason i imagine it gettin a better time than the R8 despite the same engine, is 1, its tuned very different and you also have to rememr Audi had to play the R8 safe at launch becuase it would otherwise be steppin on the Lambo’s toes, it wasnt until the V10 version came out they said to hell wit it and let loose.

In regards to the CTS-V wagon… i hate the looks, it looks very anime. but You can’t argue with a wagon capable of a 4 second 0-60. In fact you might wanna expect a better 0-60 than the sedan variant. The Audi RS6 avant actually accelerates faster than the sedan counterpart because the added weight to the back helps keep the rear planted. Do i think it will sell…maybe a couple. the fact remains wagons just aren’t hot in america, Hatch backs just recently made their comeback and wagons might be soon to follow. So this is a bold move on Cadillac, but one that i support.

Some of you commenting on this car are completely missing the point. Cars like the V-series, M cars, AMGs and RS’s are supposed to be out there in terms of risk taking. You put out vehicles that will often be sold in low quantities (and sometimes very low quanties) that will be rare or unique at the stoplight. The fact that Cadillac put this car out there is one of the balliest moves Cadillac has done since the ‘57 Eldo Brougham. They may not sell more than a couple hundred examples of this car in North America this model year, even with the fact that BMW, Mercedes and Audi aren’t selling any hot wagons in the US this year. But for the one’s who buy one, you’ll know you have something very fast and very rare.

cocojoe, yeah, pretty simple one really. Every wagon has a sedan that looks exactly the same until you get past the b or c pillars… crossovers have no sedan counterpart. Other than that I know what you’re saying… and the answer is about 4-6 inches in ride height and no memory of Chevy Chase driving you to Wally World.

Is there really a difference between “Crossovers” and Wagons? Maybe a ltlle taller, but gennerally crossover is a wagon.. They call the Outback/ Forester crossovers, but they look, drive like small wagons. Audi use to have a “Allroad” It was a wagon they renamed into a crossover. BMW considers their new 5 series GT a wagon replacement. As far as the CTS, i like the sedan, but the entire series is in need of a update. Ford is smart….The Edge, Escape, Flex…..in reality all wagons..Carstuff 2, the Flex has more interior volume then 2 CTS wagons and with Econ Boost is decently fast….for a wagon
