Entering its fourth model year, the Cadillac CTS will gain a new grille and an uprated V6 engine for 2012.
A new 318-horsepower, 275 lb-ft. of torque 3.6-liter V6 offers a 14 pony upgrade over last year’s model while still returning the same 18/27 mpg with a six-speed automatic transmission. The uprated 3.6-liter V6 will be optional on the CTS sedan and sport wagon and standard on the CTS coupe. A 3.0-liter V6 will remain standard on four and five-door CTSs.
The 3.6-liter unit features similar upgrades to those seen in the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro . A new composite intake manifold saves weight, while other engine upgrades helped the automaker shave about 20.5 lbs. from the engine compartment.
Cadillac has not released details on transmission choices for the CTS; rumors persist that the automaker will be dropping its six-speed manual from non-V models. As soon as Leftlane can confirm transmission availability, we will update this space.
In addition, Cadillac has simplified the front grille for all of its non-V models. The new design has a more premium finish with a new frame and mesh combination. Cadillac also says that its signature wreath and crest logo has sharper colors and raised ridges, which are designed to give it more of a three-dimensional appearance.
Finally, Cadillac has seen fit to juggle around some of the CTS’ options with a new Touring Package for both 3.0 and 3.6-liter models. An exclusive dark-finish grille, metal pedals, dark Sapele wood interior trim and sueded inserts for the seats, gear lever and steering wheel add a sportier feel throughout. On sedans and wagons, the Touring Package includes chrome door handles. CTSs with the 3.0-liter will get 18-inch wheels, while 3.6-liter models gain 19-inchers.
Cadillac will also add standard Bluetooth to all models (it was previously unavailable on the base trim) and blind spot warning technology is a new option for the coupe.
Cadillac says that 2012 CTS pricing will be announced later this year.
