When Cadillac introduced the Escalade Hybrid and Escalade Platinum standard gas version earlier this year, we were curious as to why the automaker wouldn’t combine the most luxurious model with the most efficient model to create the ultimate Escalde. Now, Cadillac has answered this question with the 2009 Escalade Platinum Hybrid, a super-luxe variant of the Escalade Hybrid.
Mechanically identical to the standard Escalade Hybrid, the Platinum Hybrid features a 6.0-liter V8 with Active Fuel Management cylinder shut-off technology mated to a pair of electric motors hooked up to a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery. The powertrain is mated to a CVT.

Capable of running on regular unleaded fuel, the Escalade Platinum Hybrid is rated at 332 horsepower and 367 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg in the city, a 50 percent improvement over the gas-only Escalade and identical to the regular Escalade Hybrid.

The Platinum will be available in 2WD and 4WD models that can tow 5,800 or 5,600 lbs., respectively.

Outside, the Platinum gets a unique front grille designed to look like that offered on the CTS sedan, as well as 22-inch alloy wheels and brighter, more eco-friendly LED headlamps. The Platinum also gets Cadillac’s Magnetic Rdie Control suspension.

There’s more luxury in store inside, too, where the Platinum gains Aniline wood trim with French seams on the seats, dash, center console and door trim. Upgraded wood inlays and real aluminum trim further set the Platinum apart.

Standard features include unique door sills and floor mats, a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled cupholders, a DVD entertainment system and a power liftgate.

The Escalade Platinum Hybrid will start at $84,935, a roughly $14,000 premium over the base Escalade Hybrid.
