Cadillac mulls diesel SRX for ‘11, sub-SRX crossover

07/10/2007, 9:50 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Cadillac is supposedly considering a small SUV primarily for the European market. The small crossover will be based on GM’s Theta platform, which underpins the new Saturn Vue and Opel/Vauxhall Antara. In addition, the larger SRX crossover’s replacement is said to be due in 2011. It’s likely that the SRX replacement will feature General Motors’ new 3.6 liter V6 and, for Europe, its new diesel.

The small SUV, possibly called BRX, will be tuned for the European market, much like the Saab 9-3-based Cadillac BLS, which was initially intended for Europe only. GM has announced that the next generation BLS will be sold world-wide. The current BLS is a fair amount smaller than the CTS. Whether the BRX will be sold world-wide is as of yet unknown, but it’s possible that it will get a version of GM’s new direct-injection 3.6 liter V6. An engine that large in a vehicle that small clearly hints at U.S. sales, where vehicles are not taxed based on engine size.

The upcoming SRX will definitely showcase the 3.6 liter V6. But according to Motor Trend, the SRX replacement will get a diesel engine that would pass strict U.S. emissions laws. GM is also likely to introduce a hybrid version of the SRX.

This article makes it sound like the BRX is some new news. We have been hearing about this vehicle and it’s saab platform mate the 9-4x for a couple of years now. I think that the 9-4X is supposed to be shown next year.

BRX sounds stupid… CRX is hondas, and CTX sounds the coolest, but it is too close to CTS for caddy’s liking im sure.

CTS, DTS, BLS, STS, XLR, SRX, BRX…. and the V-series!!!! the only damn thing without a stupid three letter ‘name’ is an Escalade!!!!!! I’m sure they’ll end up changing it to ESX or some BS like that soon enough too!!! ARGHH!!

They can do whatever they like for the European market, the Cadillac dealers still won’t get any business…

If they’re going to make a small SUV for europe, they should do it as a new model from the ground up, not rebadging another division’s wares.

has the Cimmaron not taught them anything?
