Back on topic: I remember installing lights in an armoured Buick Roadmaster for the Canadian government (I build police vehicles, and this one was owned by the RCMP for VIP security). That thing was HEAVY. The vehicle handler warned our shop to not try to put it on a hoist, as it would pull the hoist out of the ground. It was similarly equipped (bullteproof glass, armour plate, run flat tires, and an onboard air system to prevent chemical attacks). From the outside it looked like a standard Roadmonster, except the glass looked funny. Underneath it was a tank. Even the insides of the wheel openings were armoured to prevent an attacker from disabling the vehicle by ramming a tire. It was powered by a propane/gasoline 454 marine engine. The windshield alone was worth $15k and had to be replaced every two years because the sun’s UV rays clouded up the laminating layer. I told the handler that when it’s to be decomissioned I wanted it for the drivetrain, but he told me no way – when it was decomissioned, it was crushed. They didn’t want this car to fall into civilian hands. Pity, I’d have loved to have had that propane fueled 454. They now have a similarly built Lincoln Town Car, but I haven’t worked on that one…
