Cadillac prices ‘08 CTS

07/19/2007, 9:41 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Pricing information for the brand-new 2008 Cadillac CTS has been leaked. The new CTS starts at $32,245 for the base 3.6-liter V6 model with a manual transmission. The 3.6-liter VVT V6 model, which ups the power from 255 to 300 horsepower, comes only with an automatic transmission. It starts at $34,545.

Cadillac has dropped the slow-selling (and slow-moving) 2.8-liter V6 in favor of two larger engines. The new CTS is available in all-wheel drive, which adds an additional $1,900 to the bottom line, exactly the same premium BMW charges for the same feature on the 3-Series.

The outgoing model started at $32,520 for the 3.6-liter version. The 2.8-liter was $29,660, but didn’t include the leather upholstery of the 3.6. Leather looks to be standard on the ‘08.

automatic only? awd is ok with me as an option, but auto only, i guess caddy found a way to take the fun out of the car, but who knows mabey lln is wrong again.

They will never learn! – They are trying to compete with the 5 Series with this new CTS and dont even have the option to have a manual with the larger motor? You can get a 5, in any configuration, with a manual.

This will be a lovely car. CTS, atleast they’re not dropping the manual all together… besides, how many times has LLN been wrong before, if anything I bet it will be available on the 3.8 as a bto. needless to say, the domestophobes will hate this car no matter what.

For those that want the larger engine with the manual tranny, just wait for the V. The manual mated to the smaller engine keeps it affordable, but for the performance enthusiast, the 3.8 would be skipped for the V anyway.

GREAT pricing for the competition. 255hp base beats ANY of the competition.

This isn’t right. The top of the line CTS engine is not a 3.8 V6, its the 3.6 with direct injection

So much wrong information, people need to read between the lines:
3.6 “base” engine – 258hp, 252 lb.ft torque
3.6 direct injected engine – 304 hp, 273 lb.ft torque

3.6 (258 hp) Manual – $32,245
3.6 (258 hp) Automatic – $33,545 (32,245 + 1,300)
3.6 (304 hp) Automatic – $34,545
3.6 (304 hp) Manual – $36,225 (34,545 – 1,300 + 2,980)

I have a feeling they won’t be selling many more of these. When they have to compeat with the Lincoln MKZ, which is cheaper, offers AWD that would still be less, and doesn’t compare in styling, drivability, and quality.

You’re kidding right? The MKZ is for all intent and purposes a Fusion with a Lincoln grille. At least the General has realized that if you’re going to share platforms you better wrap them in distinctive sheetmetal. They have done a wonderful job with differentiating Cadillac from the rest of their brands (save the escalade). Most people looking for a luxo-sport sedan want RWD, not AWD. Furthermore if potential buyers were so concerned with the safety that AWD brings they would buy a Volvo or an Audi. If anyone is going to have trouble selling a vehicle it will be Ford with this gussied up Fusion… or is it a Milan… or wait… MKZ, that’s it!

not really caddy buyers are just a little under the budget of the german cars, bmw`s are drivers cars, mercs are statements of wealth. again i have both, but almost prefer to drive my nissan truck for the commute to work.

I think it looks really great, everything seems to fit together well, the interior is really spiffy…

I like the Lincoln MKZ, but it’s not really a luxury car, more like a trim level of the Ford Fusion. I would chose this over the Lincoln MKZ anyday… I wish Lincoln would begin to make their own products, they have not one single unique product.. neither does Ford or Mercury for that matter.
If they want a luxury car for a luxury brand, I say go out and make it differenciate from their other products, and the competition.
This CTS would smoke the Lincoln MKZ anyday, regardless of price. This thing is really nice and competitive.

If only Lincoln would have stayed with the LS program!

With Jaguar and Land Rover gone we should expect great things form Lincoln, hopefully something that will compete with this new CTS

The MKZ does not and is not supposed to compete with this car

RSPINAJR: Even with Jaguar and Land Rover gone, you should never, ever expect great things from Lincoln so long as it’s attached to the hip of Ford and Mercury. Lincoln will never engineer it’s own vehicle to compete against this new CTS or something like the 3-Series, the concept of Lincoln having its own engineers is actually a joke in and of itself. Ford makes Lincolns, Ford engineers tune Lincolns, Ford designers design Lincolns. Same with Mercury. Lincoln itself isn’t like an independent brand that does its own ****, quite on the contrary, it doesn’t do **** at all.

Aston Martin: It’s actually the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. There’s no “F” in this version. Just a minor detail, but we can’t be forgetting minor details now that we’re reporting our own car news, now can we?
