C63 is not as spacious as the CTS so I wouldn’t even include the C63.

My family has never considered an American car in the past 20 years.

This might be a deal breaker…the rental CTS surprised me with the build quality and choice of materials…good job GM..keep’em coming!

sat in CTS. was impressed with interior design and quality, along with everything else. would for damn sure take it over bmw 3,5, OR 6, all of which i’ve driven. MB C interior (also sat in) doesn’t compare on build quality or design; BMW interior is a matter of taste, but not any better quality than CTS. plus, BMW interiors have a problem with buttons breaking… in my experience (might not be the norm, so no need to hate)

the base car just won car of the year in 2007 largely because of it’s interior. it beat the new accord and the new malibu in the process. I think if you sat in this car you’d be impressed.

You guys can compare the CTS-V to any performance sedan , whether it’s mid-sized or large and the CTS-V has them all beat. It can matched price of a mid-sized sedan and out perform all the other sedan segments. At this point interior design is up to the buyer’s taste, the Cadillac’s interior is unlike the Germans interiors and that’s a good thing. The competition doesn’t seem to have more techno options though. Quality wise I have an Audi and I’ve examined a CTS interior at the dealer, I don’t see much difference in material quality. I do know my ‘04 Audi has a broken glove box and armrest cover and lot of peeling buttons. Nice layout ,but that means squat if it doesn’t hold up. Just my 2 cents.

inline6: You are absolutely correct. Nobody in the world cross shops CTS with 5-Series, E-Class, A6, or GS. It goes against 3, C, IS & A4. Sure, the size of the CTS has grown that it might be compared to 5-series, but then again, so has the G35. And nobody compares that to 5-series. Look at it this way. All the cars I mentioned, 5-Series, E, A6 & GS come in both 6 and 8 cylinders. Look at STS, and it comes with both 6 & 8. CTS, 3-series, IS, C, etc doesnt come with V8s–except for the specialty models, which they ALL do. Think about it.

Folks, the C63 isn’t the competitor to this model…it’s the E63 that is. The CTS-V is much, much larger than a C-Class Mercedes. And how much does the E63 cost? That’s right…$86,000, just like the M5 they referred to (NOT the M3, which competes with the C63).

So yes, the CTS-V IS a massive performance bargain. It gives you the luxury, the size, the space, the comfort, yet better handling, acceleration, and overall performance than the comparably equpped M5 and E63, while being priced like an M3 or C63, which it handily outperforms as well.

Pcwelty, chunnder, v2, DrFill- Have any of you sat in the new CTS?
And have any of you sat in the C-series?

The MB C63 weighs 3990 ibs (according to Edmunds. MB lists it WAY lower, and I doubt the difference is due to fuel). The Cadillac CTS weighs in at 4300 ibs. The BMW M5 weighs in at 4012 ibs (according to Forbes). 310 ibs and 278 ibs of difference in this category is a lot, but in reality isn’t that much. Just wanted to point that out.

The new CTS interior is actually very nice. It’s VERY well put together. The MB interior is what I would consider lacking. I got the opportunity to sit in all three, and I would definitely say the BMW has more thought put into the design, but for it feels like it’s lagging a bit in the times. The CTS imo doesn’t come close in overall design, quality maybe, but I would definitely put it far above the MB interior, which is both boring, a sea of plastic and of questionable quality.

In the end, it mostly comes from personal preference. But you gotta ask, how can MB charge such a premium for an engine that is supposedly “hand built” but they build phucking 20,000 engines a year?!

Hopefully GM will be around so they can actually enjoy the fruits of their labor. It’s amazing they were able to make a car that outperforms the M5, and sell it for 20 some grand less. Very impressive.

Cant beat that price way better than the 125K for a M6. And for performance I will let you know, Nov. 7th I will be test driving the new V at the Monticello race track in NY. With me on the trip will be my mechanic who works for DINAN BMW Performance out here in nor cal. Stay tuned!!!!

I’m glad to see that GM took the new V to the next level. It will not have the build quality of either the BMW or the MB. The last V was a dog, it’s rear end was made of plastic:). Let’s hope they fixed that problem. Keep you eyes out for some used ones, will be a deal of the century. Also, good luck finding them at 59,995.00 for a while after they are released.

The build quilty will be nowhere near the C63……………..This will fall apart as soon as you leave the dealership. Yes numbers are impressive but anybod can build a fast car to go in a straight line……..just another piece of poor quality american engineering.

Even in this economic environment, at that price point, GM should sell every CTS-V it makes. The only variable is whether the cheesy dealers will try to tack on some sort of premium. Let’s hope the interior holds up under the G-force.

Snork… the C63 wont even touch this, the CTS-V has around 100 extra ponies, a supercharger, 7 litres, and it gets round a track faster than an M5 which gets round a track faster than a C63 i do believe. I saw a C63 yesterday and its exhaust sounds miraculous, but unless the CTS sounds like a honda civic i think id take the caddy.

MB would have you believe it is the “other primary competitor in this segement”, but it just doesn’t turn corners well enough to be seriously considered against the CTS and BMW. The engine is rip snortin sweet, just don’t expect to hang with them on track days..

Cheaper than an M5 yes…but an MB C63 AMG bases for $57,175 which is the other primary competitor in this segment. So it’s not quite the “bargain” this article makes it out to be. Again, LLN seems to be biasing their articles in favor of GM. And before you go spouting off over priced MB options, I just configed a C63 w/ premium package, media/navi, sport seats and performance package for $65k MSRP.
