Spied again: 2011 Cadillac SLS (China-spec)

11/10/2009, 4:10 PM

By Mark Kleis

While Cadillac’s STS will be discontinued in the U.S. in a little over a year, the version General Motors sells in China, the SLS, appears ready to soldier on for a few more model years. In October 2009 a camouflaged 2011 Cadillac SLS was spotted testing in the United States. Now we’ve just managed to catch a few photos of the SLS with no camo before it made a quick get away down the highway.

This face-lifted Chinese market SLS test cars were just shot undergoing testing in the U.S. These prototypes show the SLS will get a revised front end with a new grille, new headlights and a new lower grille opening. We also see lots of new LEDs in the headlight cluster itself and in the fog lights.

Powertrain options will come in the form of a 3.0-liter direct-injection V6 with 272 horsepower, or a larger 3.6-liter V6 good for 310 hp. Both engines come mated to a six-speed manual-automatic transmission.

The revised Cadillac SLS went on sale late 2009 in China, appropriately coinciding with the launch of the U.S.-spec Buick Regal — one of GM’s best selling cars in the Chinese market.

Like the US’ obsolete munitions we sucker other countries into buying our leftovers.

Pretty soon China will look like a US used car lot with the new discontinued SLS, Saab 9-5 etc.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but is the car in the photo’s not the new 2011 SLS? If that is the case how is this suckering other countries into buying our leftovers.

I don’t mind the STS… it’s kind of a sleeper, especially in V form. My wife likes Caddies. In fact the minute our Sebring is at the break even point that’s probably what we’re going to start looking for… a used one, maybe two years old off a lease.

I’ve also always liked the STS. It was more mature looking, a little bit less cartoonish and nicely proportioned- I’ve only been in one once, and I remember the interior wasn’t very nice.

I wish Chinese would take the remnants of this company in all entirety. We will be paying more to those a-holes, perhaps next year, when this year’s promises are well forgotten. Do you really believe that there is f*cking chance in hell that there are idiots on this mother earth who would buy those shares on open market? If you are believer, I have a nice bridge for you in Brooklyn; and if you are normal then try to imagine how efficient federal entities are.
